| For some reason Ive got my 5.1 speakers plugged in but I can only get sound out throught the line out plug. Which means Ive got a useless sub, center, and rear right left. As far as I can tell Ive plugged them in right and the speakers arnt broken bc I can plug them into the line out and get sound but only through the line out. Windows is set up to output at 5.1 as well. Any ideas whats wrong? Oh and Im using just regular onboard ALC850 and Logitech x-530's. Thanks | ||

| Is it only in games where you can't get surround sound? If so, does your onboard audio support EAX? Some games require EAX in order to have surround sound. I know Call of Duty and United Offensive both require EAX for surround sound. | ||

| Another thing that is commonly overlooked (speaking from experience). You may have a few broken jacks on your mobo. The slightest pulling of the cables to one side or another can snap the internal components of the jacks. Had this happen on more than my fair share of mobos by accidentally pulling the speaker wire. | ||

| I don't know anything at all about your particular AM2 mobo (if you are referring to the same one that is in your profile), but my Asus board has an option in the BIOS that I had to enable. You may want to check there and see if yours has any editable sound properties. | ||

| i have the same problem but i only hear sound from my sub and rear speakers. tried a creative sblive 5.1 card and got same result, yet all 5 speakers and sub work on another rig. I reformatted and reinstalled already. Looked through all the settings. | ||

Did you ever end up trying those other drivers I posted a link to? They work with all SB Live, Audigy and Audigy 2 cards. http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/

| Ok Ive been messing around with it and finnally managed to get a quasi-surround setup up working. I rolled back to XP drivers from Biostars website and a nice fresh install of them got windows and the realtek to get sound out of all 5 speakers and the sub. WMP still wouldnt work so I downloaded a codec only Im still not getting sound through all 5 speakers. Im going to check out King Kong and the UT2004 and see if surround sound works there. EDIT: Turns out that youve got to enable one of the enviroment settings in the realtek sound manager to get surround sound. | ||

| Well everythings up and running and Im blasting American Pie across the neighborhood. Im still getting used to the whole surround aspect especially in movies. So far unless the volumes up fairly high the dialogue is much harder to hear. However it is pretty cool and there is a big difference with the addition of sound from 3 more speakers. The quality so far though is excellent. Im contemplating upgrading to the 5450's but I dont think I have the space right now.
EDIT: HOLY SHIZZNITSSIN!! I just loaded up Rock Me Amadeus with the sub/volume all the way up!! Its like a nerds wet dream!!! ![]() Last edited by eascarface; 29-June-06 at 08:26 AM..

| Hey, at least you didn't do what my friend did with his 5.1 Logitech's. He plugged in the speaker channels to the three jacks on his motherboard. That's alright, had they been the jacks that work as either inputs or outputs. Nope. He has his rear channels plugged into the stereo out and the centre and bass, and front channels into the mic and line inputs. Grr. I believe they're very nice speakers, but he has them hooked up incorrectly and listens to "jungle" music - that has been poorly encoded, I might add - with the bass turn up, the treble turned down... *Shutter* Mmm, I don't know if it's interesting, but I have a few songs that have some neat parts to listen to. The Arcade Fire - The woodland National Anthem Actually, everything I can think of by The Arcade Fire has a lot of highs and lows, and they play real instruments, besides the keyboard. Violins are real! Death Cab for Cutie - Sould Meets Body (neat to listen to the acustic gutar) | ||
