| Apex Tech Maniac | I really wanted a better place to put this but I know I'm appealing to the right crowd. Today I noticed that I wasn't getting any sound out of my rear left speaker on my 5.1 setup. All the other speakers work correctly. I tried swapping the speaker around and it works when swapped with other speakers. Regardless of what speaker I use I won't get any sound out of the rear left channel. I've tried all amounts of speaker combinations, differen't cables, everything I can think of and still can't get any sound from it. If I swap the rear and front cables around at my soundcard then I get the rear left and right playing through the front speakers perfectly. I've also tried my 5.1 headphones and they work perfectly. When I put my ear to the rear left speaker I can hear like really faint static. You know like there's nothing wrong but that faint indication that everythings turned on. So basicaly I've rulled out absoloutley everything bar the sub itself. The problem must be at the sub. It's not the cabling from the sub to the offending speaker either as I've swapped the cable out as well and it's not made a difference. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Any advice would be great. I don't want to try opening the sub unless I really have to . |

| Apex Tech Maniac | I had the EXACT same problem with the exact same speaker on my Philips 5.1 system. After a lot of fiddling ive found it to be the actual plug that goes from the sound card to the Sub. Its a prop. cable that goes from 3 x 3.5mm plug to what looks like an S-Video sylee plug into the sub / amp. Well the Rear channel 3.5mm plug is a bit dodgy and sometimes takes a wiggle or two to get a good connection. I would investigate that... especially if your phones are working 100%... Mark

| Apex Tech Fanatic | What speaker system and sound card do you have? Similar to what Mark just said, I have also had problems with my speaker setup. Sometimes there will be no rear speaker sound, sometimes reversed. It all came down to improper plugging of the speaker system into the sound card. Make sure that the plugs for the speakers are all the way in and that they are hooked up correctly. If your speaker system is set up with a digital audio cable...then i have no clue :-P

![]() ![]() ![]() | I had the very same problem.... turned out to be the "speaker out" connector in the 'sub for that channel... didn't repair it, though... 'ditched it in favor for a digital 2.1 setup... the repair would probably have been problematic... since it was an "el cheapo" 5.1 setup... the 'sub was all "glued up".... in other words... no screws! | Apex Tech Maniac | Well it seemed to come back all on it's own. I tried adjusting the cable connections on the sound card and it seemed to come back. I'm not convicned though as I'd tried the cables all day and I'd been sure not to miss anything as obvious as that. Thanks for the help guys. |
