| Apex Tech Fanatic | I want to hook up the digital out on my Audigy 2 ZS to my receiver. The output on the sound card is a miniplug. Can I just use this adapter with a spdif cable? http://www.cablestogo.com/product.as...=102&sku=03195 I have never seen a miniplug to rca adapter that was digital. Will the above adapter transmit the digital signal correctly? This is my proposed setup: sound card --> adapter --> spdif cable --> receiver | |

| Apex Tech Fanatic | Yes, my receiver has a coaxial input. This is not the same as a coaxial cable for tv. It uses a spdif(coax) cable which is digital. The spdif cable uses RCA plugs. Are there any miniplug to RCA adapters that are digital or is this a lost cause? spdif(digital coax) cable- http://www.cablestogo.com/product.as...2017&sku=45454 If I can find the right adapter this setup would be completely digital. | |

| I think I get what your saying now, the speedif port uses RCA connectors..I see...Then Yes it should work. You had be confused on calling it coaxial cable.. The adapter you posted should work fine. But Im still a bit curious, is the speedif on the reciever have only 1 cable (1 input)? | ||

Yes, there is only one RCA jack for input. I'll give the adapter a shot. It's only a couple of bucks anyway.

| That adapter should work perfectly! (By the way, it is confusing how the audio industry named it a "coaxial digital" cable, huh? And I love when they try to charge a fortune for them, as if they're fundamentally different from any other RCA cable. Sure, they shielding's great and the ends are gold-plated, but I still bet it costs them well under a buck to make each one.) Here's a screenshot from the Audigy 2 ZS help file that shows a connection like you're talking about (except they sorta use a cable with the adapter built in). EDIT: By the way, there's nothing special or "digital" about the cable shown below. Anything cable/adapter that does 3.5mm-to-RCA will work just fine.

That clears it up. thx lol, I probably have that same picture around here somewhere. Too bad Creative doesn't actually sell that cable in the pic.

You might be able to pick one up at the local RadioShack (6-foot cable for $5) and save yourself some shipping charges. ![]() Or, they also carry an adapter for $4. ![]() The advantage of the adapter is that you can always get a standard RCA cable as long as you need. And it's gold-plated, for better signal transmission. But the advantage of a cable is that there are fewer connections (more connections may mean more signal loss). Comes down to personal preference, I'd say. Last edited by FunkyFresh; 28-February-06 at 05:11 PM..
