Exclamation AC'97 Sound problem

Ok so today I booted up my computer and no sound. I looked in the device manager and ac97 wasn't on the list. So I went to add remove and it was in that list. I uninstalled and tried re-installing from the disk but when the install gets to 80% it stops responding. So I deceided to go to the abit website and download the drivers from there. Well it says that it is going to take almost 3 hours to DL!!! Then it froze!!! I tried DL again and it froze again. I managed to get the drivers downloaded from realtek and got them to install, but still no sound. the drivers show as being installed in the add/remove list but they still aren't showing up in device manager. I'm stumped at what to do. Anyone got any ideas?

Issue fixed.

According to the Abit FAQ you can lose your audio if the PCI frequency it set to high (over 37MHz) in your bios. Make sure the CPU:AGPCI ratio is set to fixed.

That was the problem. i adjusted the pci frequency and when I booted the puter up it detected the ac'97 and loaded the drivers for it.

A big thanks goes out to Slaymate for his help.

Try checking in the bios to make sure that the onboard sound is enabled.

Happened to me the other day, kicked myself when I remembered about that.

EDIT: Guess You fixed it first. Good goin.
