Default $^*@$*& Soundblaster Live(swearing inside)

If you don't like swearing, don't read this post.

Well, I can't say I didn't see this coming, but I did. Creative makes a ****ty product, and I very nearly crushed my first computer component with my bare hands tonight. My system upgrade when smooth as silk, and I sucessfully hand assembled everything from the cpu up last night. Fired it up and everything ran smooth, except the one ****ing thing I knew wouldn't. The Creative Labs(we make ****) Soundblaster Live Value! This is the third one of these cards that I've installed in 4 different comps, 3 of which were running XP. And not a single god damn one of the ****ing things EVER worked the first 30 times I installed them. Every single time, I would keeps physically reinstalling the drivers and card, and eventually, it would for no apparent reason work. This usually comes after and hour or two spent double and triple checking every single connection, and setting even remotely related to sound on the whole computer. I've just wasted 3 HOURS trying to get this thing working, and right now I'm so angry that if I saw a creative employee, I'd break his goddamn nose. For the first time in 5 years, I'm using analog sound(onboard no less) because this ****ing card refuses to work. This is mostly a venting session, because I am VERY angry right now. But if anyone knows a fix, I'd love to hear it. I've checked every thing imaginable, and every troubleshooting program says the card is working fine and playing sound. Bull****. I guess I'll go listed to some midi files now or something.

Have you tried using the Creative Labs drivers from Microsoft that are certified for XP?

The drivers I used were from creative's website for XP, are there others I can try?

you made a "hand assembled cpu" with your "bare hands"?

Wow, that is some skill with the soldering iron!

:p

Just trying to lighten the mood!

I just tried to find the drivers but couldn't. I also had a small problem before I switched to Audigy, but I used the Windowsupdate feature and under device drivers they listed Soundblaster Live drivers. Don't see them now.

Have you tried the card in different pci slots? For some reason creative cards dont like sharing Irqs. Mine cracks and pops if it is in certain slots on my board.
I have fought every creative card since I have got XP. I wish someone else made a desent card so I would have to deal with creative's pieces of SH*T

oh..and best of all...TBSC is SMP enabled!! woot! no more IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSODs!! (most commonly an error generated from using non smp enabled drivers in a smp rig)

Dang, I'm sorry to hear of all your past experiences and troubles with Creative cards. I had a lot of problems with a VIA chipset and the SB Live, but I put most of the blame on VIA's KT133A ****set.

At work, I install SB Lives so many times, it would boggle your mind. We have 3 different flavors of the Live (including the Value) and we keep testing and retesting with any motherboard we have in-house. The failure rate is usually VERY low. Ironically, one of the cards we had the MOST problems with was the Santa Cruz. The engineers had to work a lot of extra time to fix our issues with the S.C. The other one we've had tons of problems with was the Hercules MuseXP (C-Media CMI8738 chip, which is often found on 5.1 onboard audio, and has caused us problems there, too).

I've always used the latest drivers from Creative (www.soundblaster.com/drivers), and I even have a clean-sweep procedure to allow you to manually remove/delete anything having to do with the SB Live. Could be your installation corrupted, and all subsequent attempts only made things worse.

Also note that Creative recently (early last week) updated their driver sets, and these updates solved a lot of our problems with Creative products.

You know, the one thing that you DIDN'T mention is what mobo you have!

Ahh man... I just bought a Live 5.1... Oh well, I'm usin' winblows 2000 Pro. maybe I'll have less trouble. Man, I still miss XP though.

The audigy card kicks ass... none of my DOS games wanna play nice with it, even with Vortex drives, but hey... It sound good and configures easily!

Might sound stupid since the board (K7T Turbo2) has onboard audio, but I use a soundblaster live with XP I just plugged it in and powered up.

You have to love the so called 5.1 surround sound! Now all I need is the LiveWire IR addition for the front and I can jam my Mp3s with the remote, LOL
