Before you plunk down any amount of money for a sound card, I'd try to boot into the BIOS, if that's even possible. If it is, I'd nose around in there for anything that would give a clue as to why the sound is jacked up. If it's disabled, try enabling it and then restart. if the problem goes away, great. If not, LMK, I think I have a SB 32 out in the shed. Sell it to you basically for the price of shipping if you want. BTW: Might need to consult with e-machines (if it's a proprietary mobo) to find out what key to press during boot-up to get into the BIOS. Usually DELETE or F10/F12 (there are probably more, those are the ones I know of)

| I have to agree with GrandpaNoob72 on how to get into your bios press the F10 OR F12 while computer is booting up just keep hitting the key while it is booting up that should get you into the bios. If that does not work i am not sure how to get into bios on a e-machine, most computers use the standard way to get into bios should be one of the ones we have all mention to get into them. Ps, Make sure to do one key at time not both, try that and see if that works for you then once you get in check to see if the audio setting are set to enable if they are not you need to enable them. If for some reason they are enable it could be like turbopsi, said may need to install drivers in. If that does not work then i would think of buying a sound card for it , i would definitely check all that before buying a sound card. | ||

See, to me this sounds like more of a speaker problem ... as in, blown out speakers. I could be wrong, of course, and booting into the BIOS isn't a bad idea since that will give you a good look around. Direct from the e-machines support page, comes this Q&A for entering the BIOS: Good luck, -godling
