Default Sound Problems

hey, just wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem i've recently got. I have an SB live sound card and it's worked fine until now. I had to format my pc and after I had done this only two of the speakers were working and I had no idea why this was, so I updated the drivers and they all seem to be working now except all the bass has gone. I've checked the sound settings and made sure options we'rnt muted and made sure the settings were on 5.1 and the bass is up. Anyone got any suggestions?.

Cheers.

When you go into Control Panel>Sound, Speech and Audio Devices check in the Advanced tab under both Device Volume and Speaker Settings. Make sure you have all the correct things chosen for the sound device also.

Yeah i've done all that which is why it's strange why the bass would suddenly not work. They were the right drivers..

Did you check all the wires? Sometimes on my logitech speakers.. the highs get d/c and all I can hear is bass.

Wiggle all your connections and listen.

Nope no problem there, as I said this has only started to happen since I installed the sb live 5.1 drivers which fixed my only two speakers working problem.

Go into your sound properties again, under Playback-Advance and see if Digital Output Only box is checked............If it is, UNCHECK it.

Highperf is onto something there as well, but I have a solution that I prefer over anything in Windows and that is getting away from Creative's drivers.
Take a look at these drivers and see what you think, they give you much more control over your audio.

If your using Winamp, make sure that under "Output Plug-ins" that your using "DirectSound Output" and not your sound card............I made that mistake once........

Ok I installed the plugins and restarted and when windows loaded up the bass was back, so I then played a song with bass in it to test and there is no bass now, it's not just in windows media player incase your thinking it's a setting in there, it happens in games and when i'm on teamspeak aswell etc so it isn't a certain program setting.

You have not said which driver you have installed. If it is the most recent for SB Live driver SBLW-XPWEB-W4-US, there is a patch for that driver here. Not trying to insult, but there are two different drivers versions for 5.1, one is specific for Dell. Just makes sure you have the correct one for your system.

I installed the creative drivers then installed the KX project ones over it, then uninstalled the kX and had no sound, restarted my pc a couple of times and it just automaticly found a driver and the 5.1 works with bass.

If you ever run into the problem again, uninstall the old drivers before installing new ones. It can make a world of difference sometimes in sound cards, and is a MUST if you change brands of vid cards.

My Logitech 5300's had a wierd bug. The wired remote volume control would stop working, as well as the volume control in Windows. Unplugging everything on the speaker system, then plugging it all back in always solved the problem. It hasn't done it lately, though. Just to throw it out there that it might be messed up wiring or plugs.
