Default Getting ABIT sound to work in 5.1 receiver

I have an ABIT IS-7E motherboard and a regular Sony AC-3 Dolby Digital receiver. I have the optical out on the motherboard going to the optical in on the receiver, but I am not able to get full 5.1 surround sound from it. I am only getting 3 channel Dolby Stereo. I have messed around with the settings that came with the Realtek utility, but can't get my rear channels to kick in. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Hate to tell you...That if your getting signal to the stereo...And its Optical. Its not the Motherboard.....The signal is standard Digital Out....The stereo does the encoding not the motherboard....Its the settings on your reciever.....I would check the reciever settings for mode....and turn it to Dolby Pro Logic or whatever setup you actually have......
Hope that helps.....
