Default soundcard help

alright well I'm having another hardware woe. I had been using the onboard sound on my Nforce2 motherboard. I hated it and grabbed a Soud Blaster Audigy LS a little while back. Never even got around to installing it until today because I was swamped with other projects. Same card pictured in the "audio pimp" topic above.

SO here it goes. Installed soundcard, installed drivers. All went smoothly. When I hooked up the speakers, I didnt get any sound. The speakers had been sitting for a while, so i checked with another pc to see if they had died. Negative. The PC correctly finds the soundcard, and there are no errors. Just no sound...
I went into the bios and disabled the onboard sound, but I still havent got anything.

I'm sure its something very simple I'm missing, I'm certainly an audio noob. Its Christmas, so the pc is in pieces for upgrades anyway. Also, I have an analog CD audio cable that goes from my CD drive to my motherboard. I connected it to the appropriate port on the soundcard but to no avail. Also checked to see if sound was muted, its not (wow i would have felt dumb).

Please help. Oh, and Merry Christmas Pimps.

I have the same sound card.........Try going into your Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices > Device Volume/Advance > Playback/Advance > uncheck the box "Digital Output Only"

That should do it...............

Thanks for the advice. I tried what you said. Yes, I had the box checked. I unchecked it and still no good. I dont have any sound at all. CD or mp3. I tried reinstalling the drivers and changing the pci card slot it was in. Still no sound. I'm beginning to think that I have a faulty product unless you have other suggestions. I'm on XP.

have you checked to make sure the speakers are plugged into the right ports? i know on my audigy the ports are mislabeled so i had to check different ones until it worked. try using the sound test utility in the audio hq and just try one of the speaker plugs until the speakers that plug goes to outputs the correct sound.

EDITED: After carefull reading.

OK guy, this is not a bash but a very polite request.

First off, this topic is 4 months old

Second, please don't highjack another guys thread, it makes it very difficult for us to follow it and actually provide some help.

So bwirth1999, if you would be so kind, please repost your problem in your own thread and we will try and get you some help

Hey, I was nice !

Considering he has been here since 2002, I would think that there may be a possibility that Icpiper might know how a forum works. But hey, what do I know...

Hey bwirth1999, I am going to be absolutely nice here. So if you would be so kind as to re-read my post, you may notice that there are words in it like "this is not a bash", and "please".

If you take just a few moments of time and look back over this topic you will see that there are 3 seperate problems posted and despite how similar they may be, they could just as easily be very very different issues.

But if we forget about the fact that I was trying to be polite with my request, and that my request was more then reasonable as I was doing it in order to help YOU out. (The other guys are either fixed already or don't care anymore cause the topic is 4 months old ! ). And if we just focus on your reciprocally kind and understanding reply where you attack myself, our entire forum community, and attempt to turn my request into a demand .......

Awwww, this is getting to hard, so I'll just take your advice, STFU !

P.S. If you would like help with your problem, please post a new topic in the appropriate thread area and our polite and courtious staff will be glad to assist you.

Actually bwirth1999, I hope you dont'.

Although many of the guys might think that I am justified in my last responce, as I drove to work I thought this over and I have decided that I just don't have to be so harsh.

So here it is. There is no point in trying to edit what I have already said, it's already been read. I am sorry that I played so rough. I hope that you read all the way through this and can accept the appology. I know that you don't know anything at all about me, it's easy enough to find out who I am if you want to. I'll leave the rest alone and if you still need help I would be happy to assist you.
