| Alright, I'm using Vista Ultimate x64. Creative X-Fi. I have my front USB/Audio Jacks plugged in correctly, the front headphone jack works, but the mic doesnt work in steam. Infact, when I plug in a mic, I get nothing but a funny reverb(static and wavy voice) from it, and this is only when it is plugged into the back, seeing as the front port does not work. I tried making my "mic" default device and it still doesn't work properly in steam. So, does anybody have any suggestions? | ||

| Yeah. Make sure you change it to Audio Creation mode if you're using the mic on the external box (assuming you have the elite pro). If not, try changing the audio mode anyway. It's what I had to do to get the mic to work in games and MSN, so that I could activate the input on the console. Last edited by Mr. Fiddles; 21-October-07 at 05:48 AM.. | ||

| Hmmm have been thinking of switching from 32 to 64 bit Vista Ultimate but after listening to you guys I may wait a bit longer. ![]() My X-Fi Xtreme gamer was a bitch to setup in 32 bit Vista as well. I found that installing the complete software package )not just the drivers) were necessary. In order to use my mic I set my X-Fi to Gaming mode and in the Mixer section of Creative's own little white dial app in the taskbar (double click it to open it) there is a slider bar for "microphone". Slide it all the way to the top and then directly above the slider there is a "+" symbol. Click that and make sure there is a check mark next to "Microphone +20dB Boost". That is how my settings have to be in order for it to work right in games. Hope that helps. | ||

| The X-Fi series doesn't directly support the front panel audio connector. Are you using a third-party adapter or did you modify your cables inside your case in order to connect it? The only problem I had was that I didn't have the volume knob on my platinum's panel turned up on the mic. | ||

Didn't do anything to it, there was just a front mount plug like on my onboard sound, jack in and the front headset jack works. Will try your solutions soon, thanks ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
