Unhappy BF2 Crashing

Don't even think of telling me to google this... I've done it fifteen ways from Sunday.

BF2 hangs randomly. No amount of changing the sound or video options make a bit of difference.

I believe it's a sound issue, as when it crashes (or more accurately hangs) it holds whatever sound it last played with some intermittent jitters.

I have to use the reset button to get out of it.

I have the latest drivers for both my SB Audigy Gamer and the onboard Realtek AC '97.

Tried both, same type of random crash but the Realtek is silent when hanging, while the SB holds the noise.

I do have the scratch for a new card, but based on the google results, it is the same problem for the new X-fi cards too.

Any thoughts? You guys having the same problems with BF2?

I had trouble with my sound in BF2 and also in BF2142. The video would lock solid and the sound would loop about 6 notes constantly, had to hard restart computer to break the cycle. I had been using the Nvidia drivers as I have an nforce4 dfi board. I ended up getting the AC'97 drivers directly from Realtek's website and that seemed to cure the problems I was having.
Realtek

Good luck and hope that helps.

I had a DFI Lanparty UT Expert and it always had problems with BF2.... Lockups, Crash to desktop, ect.. you know it, it happened... 2142 was the same way...

Personally I think its purely hardware.. I never did get to try what I wanted to do but I was going to try a external NIC... try that..

That's exactly the same thing I've been experiencing.

Unfortunately, the Realtek drivers didn't do anything to remedy it, short of not repeating the noise like the SB did.
