Default X-FI microphone troubles

Hey whats up everyone at PC Apex, i am in need of help right now i bought a Audio Technica ATR30 microphone with a radio shack brand 1/4" Mono Jack To 1/8" when i first got my microphone it worked really great for awhile. Sounded very clear but now, all i hear is radio wave sounds and distortion. And the sound is very very low when i record anything with my voice.

This is really messed up my friend has the same microphone for a year now and not having any problems. But he has a Soundblaster Audigy 2 for some reason his doesn't do that. i tried everything, searched all over the internet for answers and had no luck, even posted a thread on Creative Labs Message Boards.

For got to mention his setup is like mine with the mono jack i don't know what brand the jack is though. I guess the brands don't matter they probably do the same job as well. I think this will probably be my last Creative Labs SoundBlaster soundcard. I've experienced lots of problems
with them before.

So anyone out there can give him even a little help would be thankful. Maybe somebody else out there has the same problem too.

Thanks In Advance

first of all, is the mic stereo or mono? i tend to find mixing those two sound 'types' can effect volume etc.
second up, have you checked the mic settings in the sound section in control panel etc?
i sometimes find that other apps like skype or msn automatically re-adjust the in/out volume settings, sometimes even muting the mic!

if it's none of the above i'ld either take it back or contact audio - technica themselves.

hope this helps!

The microphone is mono, i have everything turned up so far skype or msn didn't change anything so far. Hope my soundcard isn't damaged thats what i am thinking. I don't own any speakers yet but i will next month, i have my headphones in right next to the microphone thats plugged in. So i hope that isn't forcing anything the plug is a bit wider than my skinny headphone plug (not refering to the 3.5mm jack size) so i dont konw whats going on i will contact Audio-Technica soon as possible.

Thank you for replying

if you're concerened about your soundcard, here's another thing you can try to narrow things down a bit!
if you have an amp or mixer etc with a mic input, try your mic out on that to see if the problem occurs on other equipement!! if you get the same issue then it's probably not your soundcard!

also, does the mic require batteries? if so i would use a good quality battery.

No amp or mixer is hooked up to the soundcard, it's just a Microphone and Headphones hooked up right next to each other, the microphone i have doesnt require batteries. The Mic is hooked up to a 16' XLR cable. Man this is so complicated lol, i tried and play around with the microphone i unhooked my headphones and i didn't hear any crazy radio wave sound it recorded perfect sorta but the volume was still very low.

no, i was saying do u have or know of anyone with an amp or mixer completely seperate from your pc so you can test the mic on just a normal amp etc!!
and when you record what program do you use?? you may just have to knock the record level up!

No, i don't own a amp or know anyone with an amp. The program i use to record is Creative Audio Creation thats really all i have to record with and as for the levels they are way up i mean everything sound volume, mic volume, wave, line in etc. still record pretty low for some reason.
