Im sure we've all had our run in's with tech service and help but this sets it off for me. I sent my laptop in 3 weeks ago to be repaired because of a non working NIC card, and a faulty DVD rom...well I get a call right before christmas saying my laptop is beyond repair? They would send me a new Acer aspire 3000 which is what I had...I call today to figure out how long it will take because I need the laptop back for next semester, and they said Acer doesnt produce that laptop anymore so they offered me a damn HP...and a refurbished HP at that. I hate HP from past expiriences and will never purchase one again. I bought the acer because I wanted to have an AMD based laptop and it was very thin and worked nicely with my college classes and work. This HP is a 1.7ghz Pentium M with centrino technology, never used the centrino pentium M's but I like my sempron a lot, not even sure what is better a 1.8ghz sempron or 1.7ghz pentium M...but its not about speed as it is an AMD based laptop and how thin the acer was. I tell them that and they tell me my only other option is for a gift certificate to circuit city for an unknown amount...obvoiusly I wasnt going to say yes because I dont know how much im getting, so he said to call back tomorrow to see how much I will get if I choose the GC....im sick of this now, its been at or over 3 weeks, I go back to school in 1 week and need a laptop....i'll be sure to update when I get my answer, hopefully I can get my hands on a turion based laptop...

Talked to tech support all day and it turns out not too be so bad, I get a GC with around 700 bucks on it, planning on getting this..Buy the Compaq Presario 15.4" Widescreen Notebook PC (V6101US) and other Notebook Computers at circuitcity.com

Not a bad notebook, better than I had and much better than that HP...we'll see if it works out.

I hate to be the one who ruins your day but you do know that compaq and hp are the same company right ?

You realize the Pentium-M (Dothan core) is quite a bit faster than a Sempron, right? Not only that but your battery life would be quite a bit better.
