... when it seemed things just kind of balanced themselves out, for better or worse?
Yesterday, I get word that the knife my uncle custom made for me was shipped, attempted delivery, and back at the distribution center, which is an hour away?
I'm starting to love DHL, they were easy to work with, and they even allowed me to change the delivery address to my workplace, after I provided some information that was written on the package that no one had listed on the website tracking page. I got the knife he custom-made for me, and he didn't charge me for it (bonus #1, since he usually charges something on the order of $400 per blade), and he included his old Puma folder, that Grandpa had given him before he took off for Vietnam (TWO pieces of family history, and for free...)
Yesterday, I also get word that the watch my wife ordered for me through the AAFES "Special (ED) Order Program", to replace the one I had stolen from me back in August, at NTC, had actually shipped, and was going to be delivered last night/this morning.
The watch was shipped straight from the supplier, Suunto North America (great watches and compasses, IDIOTS working the shipping department), via FedEx, with no signature confirmation. Uh, excuse the f**k out of me, but for what she paid, what's a couple more bucks to have FedEx HOLD THE WATCH PENDING A SIGNATURE??? After making a nuisance of myself (not really, but I felt like it) asking all the neighbors in my apartment building, I am feeling MURDEROUS...
The wife called the supplier (not FedEx, since it turns out it was the supplier that failed to put an APARTMENT number on the label), and they said they'd file a claim with FedEx, as well as ship me out the exact same model as she'd ordered, two-day ground, no extra charge, and they would double-check the address, and make sure it required a signature for delivery... Ok, I'm still PO'd at them, but calming down...
My neighbor from Apt #1 (I live in #
10) comes up shortly after we finished dinner, and asks me what my name was again, and gives me the FedEx box, all seals still intact, and my watch inside... Thank you-know-who for an honest neighbor, I just added another name to my Xmas shopping (or at least card) list.
I tried to call the supplier back and tell them to cancel the replacement order, but they had closed for the day... AWWWW, that's too bad......
But my main rig, the one I've been working on for going on a year, the one that's been F@Holding double-overtime for me, I come home to find it turned off. WTF? I press the power button, nothing. Press the power button on the
mobo itself, nothing... All my tools are out in the shed, so the two 600-point Gromacs cores it was working on (dual core, dual folding, baby!!!) are going to have to wait a bit, until I can get the time to properly work on the box...
So that's my day...
