| Wendsday afternoon, big storm here in southern blount county Tennessee. Probablt the worst storm we've seen in a while, minus the hail. I was working out and the power went off, came home in very, very heavy rain. when I got home, I discovered that my internet was off. Great, another day without interent. I was sitting here trying to figure it out when I heard a popping sound, my speaker system is gone. the electronics in the sub are fried we think. tried the phone, didn't work. Turns out that my surge protector pretected the phone line, but blew it out, and the caller ID box upstairs was screwing up the phone system of the entire house... Now, for the rough part. We are on well water, not city. the electronics for the pump were blown out. Our A/C overheated, so it wasn't working. (btw, it's lightning as I type) Next on the list, the little 13 inch TV in my room is gone, the tube is fried. The 21 incher upstairs in my parents room is fried, but it's probably just the power circut. Now, my dad tries the computer up stairs. It's gone. When you turn power to it on, the keyboard lights come on like usual, but it doesn't start. It's either a fried mobo, or a PSU. It turns out that the lightnig fried the cable company's modem, not to mention the little netgear wireless router, and last, but certainly not least, the LAN connector on my mobo. the computer still runs, but the onboard LAN doesn't. Fortunatly for me, I had a 10/100 card lying around. *whew* The really weird part is comming. A clock was reset, but it wasn't right for it to have reset its self to 12 am, it was spaced to where it couldn't have, because we were back by then. This was on a clock attached to a wall. But, the really friggin weird part is that my mother's battery operated cooking timer (which she uses as an alarm clock) was reset to the exact same time as the wall operated clock. The clock down here in my room was reset to the wrong 12 hours. (it said AM was PM, and PM was AM.) Oh, and one last thing. the window upstairs is cracked, part of the frame is messed up, and we live in a log and *****ing style house. we think that side of the house got super heated, and the window cracked, but it wasn't for long, so there was no fire. Oh, and everything that was messed up was on the north side of the house, where the window is. This is kinda freaking me out. How the heck can this happen? Any ideas? Lol, anyone want to send me a new 7.1 speaker system or bigish TV? (j/k) | ||

| Most surge protectors are only good for one spike, then the are only an electric outlet splitter. Sorry to hear about your problems! If I am not mistaken, I saw somewhere on the net where you could get a line conditioner installed by your power company outside of your house. I know very little about home electricity. I run my 2 main computers on UPS's. Well, the rest are folding for PcApex, so maybe Karma will help them if I get some crazy weather here. Have a good one! E | ||

| Well, lucky us. Our A/C just quit yesterday... Possibly a compressor, that's major $$$ that we really don't have. It's hot as hell inside my house. Yes, I'm aware that most surge protectors are only good for one spike. We'll have to replace them sometime, right now, we have to fix the A/C and get new TVs, etc. Phones are fixed, but my speaker system is still gone. Does anyone have any clue about the clocks though? Possibly some breed of EMP? It's just really bothering me.... | ||

| Wow, that's rough. Im really sorry to hear this. What kind of t.v.'s where they? At my old house, there was a thunder storm and we had an umbrella up in our backyard. We didn't want it to blow away, so my mom wnet to the back door, put her shoes on and just as she reached for the handle, a large bolt came down and struck the unbrella. It took not much. Our A/C, dishwasher and two televisions (which we had repared and they work great). We didn't really have anything else plugged in, though. We owned no computers at this time. | ||

Well, one was a pretty good 20 inch DVD-VCR combo, the other was a 13 inch TV-VCR combo that was due for replacement anyway (it worked fine, it was just friggin small) But, if we can replace the 20 inch, and get the old one repaired, then I can finally have a 20 inch! yay! Ouchie, losing A/C isn't fun, is it? it's hotter in my house than it is outside right now (it's 74 right now, according to desktop weather) But, anywho, I'm still waiting for someone that has an Idea about the clocks... That is just freaky... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| sounds as if you had a very large bolt hit near your house. the electro static discharge alone can fry most electronics and or scramble their internals to not work or just be off. as for the lightning damage it might be covered by a homeowners or renters policy, check yours out. | ||
