Angry Morals and Values

Most of us live in the United States of America, where all culture and moral values are bound by the constitution. But there are some things that are just plain morally wrong. Some of you you have me added have noticed I havent been on IM in a long time, well today I caught up with an old friend and she had this (surprising) news to give me... (she is only 17..now)

Her: guess what
Me: what?
Her: i'm engaged
Me: O.o
Her: June 9, 2007 is the date
Her: Hes 18

What is wrong with people these days?! Have People lost their fricken minds?! Have all moral and ethical values as we know it gone down the drain? What is happening to people these days?! Why are they in such a hurry to get married?! I mean Comon! Dont you want to enjoy life?! Now granted, I myself dont know what age to get married at, but really, Im planning at around 25-30 (after I have my degree, and my life is settled, all loans paid off..etc) (its really dictated by our culture..) I mean really What the hell goes on in these peoples minds?! Dont they want to have fun and be kids and focus on education?! Why get in debt so early in life? (ie divorce..children..etc). I say people are horny and just want "it"..

Now getting deeper into our convo, they have only been together for 4 months...How the hell can you be so sure you are in love? Dam.

So, what is your opinion of this whole situation? Am I getting (err pissed at what this country, more specifically what my generation has come to) for no reason?!

Dude, it's not your life. If she wants to, it's her call. I have a friend who is 18 who is engaged, with a wedding date in 2007.

What does this have to do with morals and values or America? It's about personal decision.

Hey I have to agree, not from a morals/values point of view just from the fact that it inevitably cause so much more grief down the line, people rush into things like marriage, have kids and then realise what a fricken mistake they have made and gert divorced, the kids go throguh all kinds of sh*t and its all really not that desirable. If you do love someone then spend 5 or 10 years with them and then decide to get married. Your much less likely to make a mistake.

Disclaimer: I realise what I have said above may not be true in all cases and is just a point of view.

I agree with Spectrum. Marige is not a moral decision its personal. I supose some may argue that values may be questionable here. But Marige at such a yung age is not a wise decision.

It's up to them to make their own mistakes. Personally, if her family hasn't had any qualms about the upcoming marriage then there may be something wrong there as well. But who am I to judge morals and values :-p.
(I agree with you Nerdz and Reza)

Well ,I can speak from eXperience that marriage that young is rough.
they have no Idea what it'll be like living together and being independent.

Paying bills, changing diapers , No sleep , double shifts at work...
And the inevitable."Oh look its thursday were broke and the fridge is empty " what to do"?
Its a rude awakening at that age .

At least it sounds like theres a family to turn to for support.

But anyway ,Morals have nothing to do with it , more like lack of common sense .
