i had a question for you... you said that you work in a mental hosipital... are these the same ones that were around in the 1940 to late 80's? i have done alot of reading up on the mental hospitals... and i am SOOOO happy that they changed the way things worked.... in the past if you had a mentaly challanged child the goverment would not help you, and if you got to the point where you couldnt afford to pay the medical bills, they would take your child away and throw them into these insitutions. That would lead to over-crowding.. and what would happen is that the workers would be overworked and hence the level of care dropped sharply. what i wanted to find out are you in an older instatution or a newer one? and have things changed.. I do realize now things are diffrent... but how is on the staff side of things? are you still majorly underfunded / understaffed?

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | I can't say anything other than I hope things work out. Anything more complex escapes me at the moment. I know sometimes pride can get in the way of asking for or accepting help but if you need it I think we would all participate in a fund raiser or any other helpful activity for you and your family. Rant all you need to in a case like this, sometimes it's importatnt to be strong, but you also have to release once in a while. |

| PcApEX's PuNK ROckER | i guess i will be needing some more prayers again... just found out in three weeks, my son is going to have a surgery on his hips so he can walk... pretty much what has happened is that his legs have been dislocated from his hips.. and then they grew the wrong way.. so they need to cut his bones and reshape them... he is going to be in a full body cast for 6 weeks. in that time he will be in the hospital, as he has a compromised immune system and a blood disorder, so he wont be home till he gets out of the cast... my sanity is teetering....

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | Nothing like a roller coaster ride to keep you on your toes. My wife of 24 years had surgery yesterday. Since she was 2 years old, she has had rheumatoid arthritis. While not as serious as your sons disease, it has dominated her entire life. She has had 22 surgeries in 47 years. Both hips twice, both knees, a shoulder and an elbow, along with a bunch of revisions and corrections. She uses a powered wheelchair most of the time. Yesterday, they took her right hip out completely, it was infected. Through all of this, she has had a fantastic attitude. She has taught me more than anyone in the world. You gotta hang in there, take the good with the bad and accept the fact that you don't have any control over your childs condition, but you can control what happens to him. Never , never fail to get a second and/or third opinion when you think something is not right. Good luck. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My sister had simular symptions when she was young. Dropping platelet counts and dots. She was 7 or 8 when it happened and for 2 years she was a human guinea pig. Then someone finally decided she had a blood disease termed ITP. They cut out her spleen and everything was good. She was lucky. While we can't know for sure, it wouldn't surprise me if 1/2 of your sons problems were caused by the Doctors guesstimating. I hate Doctor's. I truely do. I still believe my Dad died from shoddy medicial care.

No offense, but I don't think you are in a postition to say what you would have done in his shoes. You have no idea how your perspective on life could change after having a child.I'm sorry for the off topic remark, especially on this thread. I can't imagine what that does to a person what you have gone through. No prayers from me since I don't pray but if I did you'd hold a special place in those prayers.

I'm 18 give me a break. I was just trying to give him some credit for how strong of a person he is. I've never gone through anything like this, nothing really bad has ever happened to me, I've got it pretty damn good. I just have no idea how I would take this sorta thing, let alone any bad thing.
