| So, the wife and I get back from Maine to find out that one of the few friends she had in HighSchool was murdered in FL. From what I gather, he and his girlfriend/fiance, both 26/27, were camping when some one came across their camp and did them in. Seems the 19 year old prick who did it left his friends saying "I'm just going to go kill someone for the hell of it." At least, that was the general feeling I got about the kid. Anyway, we're home for less than a week when she's on the road again with the boy. Now, It's all good, we talk every night when I'm at work, and when I get home from work . . . There's a couple of rough spots where I'm REALLY missing her . . . Then I get sick. We picked up a cold in NY that it just seemed to be taking forever to run through my system until last night. I had MASSIVE fever, shakes, chills, sweats, the whole nines . . . However, it also ends up leaving me unable to open my jaw more than about 1 centimeter. To open ANY further is HELLA painful. So, I go to the local Urgent Care facilty today, and the doc that sees me gives me a scrip for Zithromax, and gets me in to see an oral surgeon so we can figure out what's up with my jaw. I get to the oral surgeon, and he pretty much wrestles my jaw open to where he can see the infection point and immediately goes into 'crisis' mode. Seems I was about 12 hours away from being hospitalized with a MASSIVE tooth infection, that I didn't even FEEL! I mean, aren't these things supposed to hurt in advance? I used to think so . . . Not any sensitivity to tell me there was a problem or anything . . . *shrugs* Maybe I"m just messed up . . . So, they do an emergency 'drainage' of the site and pump me up with some IV antibiotics. I get a replacement scrip for some Clindamycin and Percocet (for the pain from being lanced). Now, I've never had any kind of oral surgery before, and it wasn't as bad as it could have been, I guess . . . Tho, having something scraping at my jaw like that . . . *Shudders* Not something I'd recommend. Ok, so this ramble got a bit more rambling than I expected . . . I gotta say, overall, I'm not too hyper about what these Percocet do to me . . . Nothing like feeling like you're going to pass out in the middle of a sentence. *laughs* Oh well. I gotta go find some soup to eat so I can really begin the recovery. I want to at least be CONSCIOUS when the wife and boy get home tonight/tomorrow morning. (Yah, I get to greet my family all drugged up. Woo frickin Who) Thanks for reading. D | ||

| Man, I don't get scared often, but the threat of any kind of hospital time will do it EVERY time! What worries me is that my body decided that the infection was 'dealt with' when it most CERTAINLY wasn't. I dunno what I think about the Percocets . . . I don't like nodding off every 10 minutes . . . But, if its keeping me pain free, I guess it can't be ALL bad. And as far as my wife getting in . . . We just found out that all traffic through the Knoxville area is pretty well stopped due to construction . . . so, I'll be lucky if she gets home by 4 am . . . I've got my fingers crossed, tho. I REALLY wanted to see her before I HAVE to go pass out for the night. | ||

| Friggin Percocets . . . This time, I'm FULLY AWAKE!! But the wife and boy are back and both sleeping peacfully. Necro, the conversation was a life saver . . . And was very educational, too. Thanks a ton. I'll be sure to keep you updated on how my face is feeling. I have a feeling that I'm going to be surgery sore tomorrow . . . fun bruises and all. Upside is now the wife's home, she's demanded that I take at least one more day off to recover . . . I don't like it due to the lack of funds, but what the lil lady wants, she gets. *laughs* | ||

| I bet it feels like you were at the wrong end of a basebal bat for a few more days.. Just try and keep your head elevated when you sleep (A few thick pillows UNDER the mattress at the top may work, or similar) it will help relieve some of the pressure and pounding you might feel ![]() | ||

| yeah done the percocet thing way too many times for legit stuff, i dont like the hospital either,. maybe thats why i keep ending up there... LOL good to hear your feeling a bit better, and follow necros advice, keeping your head higher than your heart lessens the blood pressure pounding in that area. | ||

| The pillow thing was no problem . . . We have two HUGE throw pillows on the couch so I just stole one of those . . . It's the great squishy kind that once you get them into place, they aren't moving at all . . . They'll conform to your shape a little bit, but otherwise, you are STUCK!! Helped out a lot. Tho, I wish I could sleep with my mouth closed . . . Woke up with the WORST case of dry mouth EVER!! spent at least 5 minutes at the bathroom sink gently rinsing with warm water to actually make it FEEL like my tounge was made of something other than sand. *laughs* But if that's the worst of it, I'm doing pretty damned good. Well, back to my first real meal since this all went down . . . Lentil soup . . . Good stuff! It's awesome on the throat, too. D Edit:: And I really gotta go to you all for suggestions on CPU purchases earlier in my planning stages . . . Thanks again to Necro for putting me on the Opteron path. The Opty 165 is about $60 more expensive than the x2 3800 I was eyeing, but I'll take the extra pay period to save that addtional money to get the performance boost. | And the end of the saga is in sight. I go in on Tuesday afternoon to have the offending tooth cut out and with that, hopefully ending any chances that I'll get a nasty infection from that source. Not looking forward to it, it's a wisdom tooth that will need a bit of work, I imagine . . . I expect deep bruising and a LOT of hurt . . . But if I can, I'm going to only take the one day off. Wish me luck!! | ||

| yeah good luck man, i would schedule at least two though, that isnt exactly the best surgury, to bounce back from. plus it is your face. however, get a doc that will give you decent pain meds too and yuo should be fine. more percocet would be my recommendation. dull the brain and the pain. | ||

| I gotta say, that went well. The doctor I went to is extremely good. I've never had a dentist this good. He's friendly, but professional and tells it EXACTLY the way it is . . . there is little to no BS factor with him. His pain management is second to none . . . I half expected to feel just about every little movement that went on in my mouth (I'm also a bit paranoid when it comes to any kind of mouth pain) but I felt little more than pressure during the extraction, and one of the teeth had to be cut out. And he doesn't try to guilt you about something that's obviously too late to fix. (A HUGE first for me . . . all of the other dentists I've ever seen in my life tried making me feel like crap because I was born with soft enamel and haven't been able to keep up on regular flouride treatments due to being chronically broke/without insurance). So, if you ever find yourself in the London Kentucky area with need for an oral surgeon, I can hook ya up! Oh, and as far as my personal pain is going . . . It's just about 10 hours after the surgery and beyond the occasional strong throb caused by sudden movements, I'm doing good. He gave me more Percocet to take the edge off, and that's exactly what I'm using it for. I was hoping to be back to work tomorrow, but I think I'll indulge and hang out with my wife for the day. Thanks again for all the kind words, everyone! D | ||
