Default What's new in the life of John

Well, I'm sure some of you noticed (with relief) I haven't been posting as often as I used to. I figured I'd explain why, for no other reason than I want to, and that's cool enough for me.

Number one, and probably my favorite: I now have a girlfriend. Her name is Katie, and we get along really well. It's a good sign when we can talk for hours without pausing, or just sit quiet and be content. I'm hoping things work out with her, but in two months I'll be in wisconsin (Carthage College) and she'll be in southern IL (University of Illinois). It's a great relationship, and I'm hoping to god we can make it through college and still be together. It'd be about a 5 hour drive to visit her, but I would walk to the ends of the earth over broken glass and hot coals barefoot just to be with her. The times I'm alone without her seem like a waking dream, and the only reality is when we're together.

Part two, I graduated from High School today, which is sweet. I managed to survive and passed all my classes senior year even with over 60 absences It only took an hour and a half for the ceremony, even though 720 kids were graduating. I'll have pictures when I get the chance to steal them from my brother's digicam.

Part three, I thought you guys would like to see my Second Place poem I got published this year, since a lot of you are former soldiers. sorry I didn't type it, i can't find my original so I just scanned the page.

Not at all. sorry I cut off the picture on top, it is of arlington cemetery and looks really cool, but I didn't take it so it'd be copyright infringement. I give you permission to show it off, as long as my name stays on it.

Congrats. 60 absences, that's amazing. Congrats. And good job getting a girl.

Second. You can show that picture, it's credited there.

And third, where's Carthage College? I'd imagine that to be more than a 5 hour drive between the two of you.

Congrats again

Meh, don't want to crop it again. to tell the truth, I've seen dozens of pictures of Arlington from the same spot, look identical. I'm sure you can mentally fill it in.

Carthage College is half way between Milwaukee and Chicago, on Sheradian, right off the Lake. It's about an hour and a half drive from my house to Carthage, if I make good time, and two and a half hours to Urbana, where U of I is. I might be able to make some better time by hitting an interstate, now that I think about it.

I think Edwardsville as southern illinois.

Drive faster and you'll get more "together" time.

if you live in the Chicagoland area, anything south of Romeoville is southern Illinois.

Wow, you had over 60 absences! I hope it was for good reasons. If I was the dean and saw that, I would not admit you to the college. You may want to get your act together to help prevent problems in the future.

Howver, congrats about graduating from HS. You are one of millions who graduated this year

Too bad your girlfriend can't attend the same college as you. It will be tough, and I wish you the best of luck.

60 absences = chronic sinus infections + asthma set off by everything + addition on the school leading to welding fumes + them tarring the roof every couple days second semester

The doctor said I'd be better at college because no welding fumes, no tar, and no animal dander on people because they can't have pets at Carthage.

Urbana = Southern Illinois? Yeah, I'll cut you some slack, cuz yer in Chicago. If Katie finds Chicagoland to be too busy, she'll probably like it here a lot. Depending on her interests, it could be VERY boring here. (I'm biased, though, because I've been here nearly my entire life. Heh.) Even though I've said it twice already, congrats on everything.

And about the poem: Excellent work!

Now how do you have 720 people in your graduating class and it only takes an hour and a half? I graduate on the 10th and we have 400 some people walking, but it'll take like 3 hours and some change. I guess we need to march one after another across the stage in a constantly moving line. <-----(for no relevant reason)

we had two lines on the stage, and the only breaks in the name calling was to glare at inconsiderate parents who bring air horns to such a solemn ceremony.
