| She's 2 1/2 years old AKC registered and goes by the name of Annabelle. The family that had her was advertising that they had an AKC registered female Akita that they wanted to give away for free. Of course I checked into it. Seems the dude didn't realize how difficult Akita's were to raise and train, so the poor dog had been just living on a leash in his backyard. He said that finally he just had enough and wanted to get rid of her. She was full of ticks and her ears were eaten up pretty bad by flys. She has some spunk, that's for sure. When Annabelle and I met this morning she attempted to remove my face and some fingers. Lot's of blood but no real damage. That's when I decided that her and I needed to have a talk about who will be the Alpha and who is the Beta. In the end she agreed that I was the Alpha. She has absolutely no training and knows zero commands. It will be a challenge to make her obey me, but I look forward to it. She will never be able to replace Harley, but an empty spot I have been carrying around is half full now. | ||

If you mean the dog, it is a Japanese breed called the "Akita Inu". Loosely translated it means "big dog" I have a smaller breed that should "look like an Akita in miniature" according to the AKC. My breed is called a "Shiba Inu" ............... meaning, you guessed it, "small dog". | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| My wife and I are just letting her get settled before we start working with her, but I'll tell you, she's a hard-headed bitch. The dog, not my wife...well, let's just say I was referring to the dog. She's actually pretty affectionate but it's going to take a long time before we can acclimate her to the other animals. We muzzled her and introduced her to our other terrier-like dog, and a serious wrestling match ensued. That's to be expected though. The Akita will naturally assert their dominance on anything they can. When we introduced the terrier-thing to Harley, we eventually had to take the muzzle off of Harley and let him get in a few bites just so each dog knew where their place was. Then they were fine. Wait till Annabelle meets the cats... | ||
