Woot! After 3 years in the navy i finally scored well enough on my advancement exam to be advanced to 3rd class petty officer. After i took the advancement test (3 times) i was always asked, "Do you think that you made it?" Not wanting to jinx myself i would reply, "Either way im still gonna get drunk." But after this test i told myself and others right off the bat that their was no way in hell that i could ever had made that damn test, and that ive started my own club called AFLA (Airman For Life Association). Looks like it worked so now im gonna go get 3 sheets and puke in my shoe! Woohoo! This means more money too BTW, and of course more responsibility

congrats sparky, im personally not famililar with the navy rank structure yet so i had to look it up, only thing i know about it was my dad was an e-5 when he got out (looks like thats a Petty Officer 2nd Class)

Thanks for props guys. This has been a long time comin and i just had to let my internet family know about it; not very often i get to brag about somethin. Anyways ill be sure to put up some pics on Friday of the before i get frocked and after i get frocked details of my arm. Not because theirs gonna be a new rank their, because its gonna be ugly once my buddies get done with me. Hehehe ive already got a broom handle with my name on it according to my supervisor. Ahhh traditions.

We have blood stripes. The rank is pinned on the collar without the backing, then you bud's get to come up and "congratulate" you by pounding their fists onto the stripes, thereby causing them to dig painfully into your body. It's a lot of fun. Then, after your done, you must wet your stripes by getting beer sprayed all over you.

ahh yes...but then again....alcohol is good for the healing

One good thing about blood stripes is the higher you go up in rank the less people can give you the blood stripes..We have a tradition that only the rank that you are getting and the ranks above you are allowed to congrat you in that manner.. So if you are getting your E-2 you are in for some pain..Now after the pinning then your squad got to do thier share of celebrating.. We like to tape people up in the mummy sacks and hang them out the windows or push wall lockers down a flight of stars with someone in them.. I know is sounds harsh but no one has goten hurt since we have been doing it and we all have a few drinks afterwards..All my wings and rank were blood including my CIB..So I had my CIB,EIB,Airborne wings,Jump master wings,Military freefall wings,Pathfinder badge,Brittish jump wings,German Jump wings and all my rank..

Bio, it sounds like you have shed a lot of blood in the name of a promotion. Usually the loss of bodily fluids shortly after a promotion, means something a little shady. But in this case it isn't.

Yeah it is all good and in tradition.. I would not have felt I earned it if it was done any other way..

navy ranks I am guessing that has to do with the navy rank.. There is a bird in it and I am assuming that that is what he is recieving..

Yeah Like BA said When I made 3rd class petty officer it required me to get the CROW TACKED on my arm and on my collar using the pins...Pretty Painfull but once your in the club you get to pass it out to the next dumbass that makes it..

Congrats on moving up from 2 hour fire watch to the now 4 hour DUTY DRIVER watch

And you still get to sweep the shop and take out the garabage...Just not when the airman are around..

Boy.....I remember when I got my "blood-wings" at Ft Benning........I had no clue about what they were until they asked me and I said "Airborne"...........wow.......my 1st Sgt was the worst........I thought he put my wings into my chest......

Besides getting rank pinned and shots to the arm by your platoon in a gauntlet you had to walk through, Marine Corps NCO's and Officers have a blood stripe on their dress blue uniform trousers ( Battle of Chapultepec, Mexico every NCO or Officer was killed or wounded) so when u became an E-4 not just your platoon who was E-4 and above but the whole company would make you go through the gauntlet and get a knee to your thigh in addition to the free shot to the arm and pins on your collars.
