![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | sunbird writes "The Justice Department has issued a subpoena seeking IP logs from Calyx, the ISP for nyc.indymedia.org, after individuals posted [1 | 2 | 3] the names, addresses, and phone numbers of some of the RNC delegates. The subpoena was issued as part of an ongoing investigation of voter intimidation. As reported earlier in this Slashdot article, the Justice Department tried this before. Calyx, represented by the ACLU, responded, claiming that '[t]he only intimidation taking place here is the Secret Service intimidating people who speak out against the government.' | Apex Tech Fanatic | That isn't cool. Putting personal information of that content in that context is dangerous. Those delegates aren't all politicians. They are registered members of the Republican party, chosen to represent their respective states. Publishing that information has put these people in real danger. I hope that whoever did this soon realizes the consequences this might bring. [edit:] last time I checked our civil rights, being protected from voter intimidation was one of them. It shouldn't matter if it was a convention, or an election. That was wrong. |
