Default Possible forum feature... what do you think?

This is the hack I am considering setting up for you guys: Email Integration (New threads/replies by email) - Page 2 - vBulletin.org Forum

Essentially, what it does is parse emails sent to specific email addresses and makes a forum post or forum thread out of them! So, you could send an email to windows_os_problems(at)pcapex.com and it would create a forum thread for you in the appropriate forum. The Subject becomes the Thread title and the body becomes the first post. OR you can subscribe to a forum and when a new thread is created you are sent an email and when you reply to the email, that reply is posted as a reply to the thread! Pretty neat, huh?

I can think of two situations where this feature would be VERY useful... At work/school where they limit or monitor web traffic and mobile users who want to participate in forum discussions via their cellphones.

Let me know what you think and if you would use this.

I'm not sure how much I would use it as I work from home so limits are not a problem. However, I can see where it might be useful.

Of course, now that I said I wouldn't use it, you will decide not to do it, and then I will be in a situation where I need it.... but that is just my luck....

Don't make it too big too fast. I don't know what the server limitations are but the possible input could be tremendous. How would this be able to block spam? What if someone set up a new account and used the email system to blast the site with crap?

That would be one of my main concerns as well... Also... The possible inpact on you income via ad's since it would limit users need to actually come to the forums as regular as before. I can see pro's to it but I can also see a lot of cons as well...

On the plus side adblock wont block ads in emails, on the down side seems like more work and maintenance for you.

If you do implement it, maybe make it available to users with x amount of posts or been around x amount of months...I also see issues where someone would respond and all the previous posts are included making it appear really cluttered on the forum side. Not something I'd really take advantage. I'm a big fan of GUI and such...
