I've heard a sledgehammer works as a makeshift benchmark. Seriously why would you want to bench a mac? Macs are death for anything they do, I should know my boss forces me to use an ancient "Quicksilver" dual proc. G4 for all the photoshop needs and what not. It's just plain slow.

i was just trying to satisfy my curiosity - to see how it ranks among others. But i would have to say that, being I a audio producer and my father a hospital designer, macs are the way to go as far as graphical and audio based programs. Only thing is the lack of software - which can be fixed with the new boot camp which can be used to boot XP from a seperate HD.

I work at a photostudio, I have to put up with macs on a daily basis, here's why they suck: First and Foremost they are rather expensive when you get the absolute best, IMO more than they should be, but then Dell and company cost more too. Because of the higher price they get held onto for as long as they can run, which is a long time let me tell ya, there is an iMac floating around our studio for email... it's a G3. So we know they are around for a while, which doesn't help when they aren't really any faster than your average PC at release. But the real kicker: no real upgrades, we allready have as much ram as the stupic macs can handle, and they are still slow enough to get trounced by my S754 Sempron 3400+ In the land of still photography Macs could be replaced easily and for the better, their marketing has convinced my boss that Macs are the best for photography. No offense to my boss, he's a great guy and a pleasure to work with, but navigating a file system on a mac is tricky for him and the other photographers.

Oh yeah and the final offense: I see no bios when I start up, perhaps I'm missing it, but it doesn't look possible to OC a mac at all. LAAAAAAAME!

**Edit** forgot, I don't really know about mac benchies, but someone is bound to have made one, look for mac superpi or I think the linux super pi would run on osx. browse the google.

which in theory defeats the whole purpose of having a MAC in the first place ....

But macs are so hip, is it possible to be hip without any real usefulness?
