![]() ![]() | Orion, I have a comp that has 1.2Ghz Duron, 512mb PC133, Visiontek Geforce3 and onboard sound. In 3DMark2001se it gets right around 6000. ClowN's right, you need a new vid card my friend. I would suggest the Geforce TI4200, there are good deals out there on them and you can carry one thru to your next system.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My score with everything at stock speeds is about 3300. I have an Athlon 1.2 , with 512 MB Mushkin Rev 2, and a Geforce 2 TI. With system oc to 1.44 (fsb 137) and the video card oc'd I have achieved scores around 4500. The very best score being 4622. The Geforce 2 TI is better than your gts, but not as good as the ultra. As I recall: gts < pro < TI < ultra. So, you would see some increases with a faster proc. But as Clown said (I can't believe I am agreeing with Clown) your real money shot is going to be a new video card. The next question is, do you really want to put a new video card into a Duron 850 on (I pressume) a Via KT-133a mobo....I would say no. If your comp is still keeping up, and allowing you to play the games you want etc. I would leave it alone. Upgrade en masse when you can no longer play the free cd's that come with captain crunch. You and I are both in the awkward position of needing CPU, Mobo, ram, and vid card for our next big upgrade path.

I think then Ill leave my processor, and maybe invest in a nice new GF4200, or a rad9700 or summin til i can afford the rest, nice one guys :-) (oh by da way, anyone sellin a GF4200 or a rad???)!! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The problem I see with that strategy, and I have thought about this alot, is that you then have a kick ass videocard in a system unequipped to fully utilize its potential. Then you fianally get around to buying the 10 GHz AMD Sapphire XXX Gold Proc on a VIA KT 1066 mobo in one years time and your kick ass TI 4200 is the equivalent of a RIVA TNT2, and you will need to replace it to reap the benefits of your other new hardware. It just seems like you end up buying to vid cards instead of one! I know there is no right answer. I decided to spend my cash on something that will definately make the transition to my next rig...new 5.1 speakers. Anyone running a Geforce 4 Ti or 9700 pro on mobo that uses pc-133 and has a Duron or T-Bird?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes, I have a 4200 on my KT133 mobo. If I unload everything out of memory and do some extreme vid card overclocking, I can almost hit 12,000 in 3DMark. My setup will soon change though. Eyeing a new Abit KT400, 2600+, and XMS PC3200. |

![]() | The Ti4200 is a really good deal as far as nice video cards go... but I just dont know worth it a new vid card would be unless you get a somewhat up-to-date processor. an 800mhz duron is pretty archaic.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hey BA - hypothetical question for you. if you had known that you would not be imminently buying a new rig.......would you have bought the Gainward for your existing kt133 setup? I am still undecided. I know you can understand my reservations. What are your thoughts? I will absolutely not be replacing the remainder of my system for at least 12-18 months. I know that kind of restriction is unthinkable to many of you...but for me at this time...it is just not in the cards.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes, I'd have gotten it anyway. I'm real pleased with the performance increase over my Ti-200. My main system here is also the main gaming rig and I wasn't about to hear the kids talk about low frame rates on the games we play. Yeah, that was the reason for the upgrade, the kids. I always do incremental upgrades to my computer. When something is starting to get dated, it gets swapped out. I end up with a whole new system about every 18 months that way. Honestly though, I did the vid card upgrade sooner that I needed to. I should have waited until games utilizing DX8 and pixel shadeing were more prevalant. But, the cards are pretty inexpensive right now and you can recoup a portion of your money back by getting rid of the old one on ebay. Amazing what some idiots will pay for old crap you may have lying around. That's what is paying for my new rig. |

| H.A.L.O.-Hoe | With my ti 4200 I get 10,585 on 2001. I reallly like the 4200.I thonk you would be really happy with it, but I also would sugggest upgrading your proc and maybe the mobo.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There is absolutely no freakin way you are getting a score of 6700 with a Geforce 2 MX card and a 1 GHz processor! Maybe in 3D Mark 2000, but not 3D Mark 2001! Sorry dude, not possible.
