| Benchmarking hard drives with the built in test in Windows XP is a quick and dirty way to see how a systems hard drives are configured and performing. Although there are many other benchmarks out there that will give much more detailed info, this could be invaluable to those who are troubleshooting PC's in the field without easy acces to the internet... I'm just a benchmark junkie that got bored, I love new toys, but this one just happens to have a practical use The following pics are for how a system performs with the HD's set up WRONG on purpose. The Main HD is set for the IDE Maxtor 60GB, and the 10KRPM 36GB WD Raptor is set as a secondary, so your scores should be better with them configured properly. I need to reformat the Raptor after a few too many BSOD (Won't boot, missing NDTRL or something) so I made it a slave so I could extract my important data, otherwise I would make it the primary and show a back to back comparison Step 1. Open "My Computer" by right clicking the Icon, then Properties, and then "Device Manager" Step 2. Once in "Device Manger" then expand the tree that is called "IDE ATA/ATA PI controllers" and select "Properties" select either "Primary or "Secondary" then just click "Speed Test" Step 3. Post "Results" Like I said, there is no way the Maxtor should be faster than the Raptor in "Burst Speed" this should be looked upon as a "Worst Case" scenario Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 05-January-06 at 12:22 PM. | ||

| Hmm, that is very possible, I am using a NVIDA NF-4 Chipset with the latest drivers, and I installed the optional GART driver too (Maybe that is what it's for!) EDIT: One of the pics didn't upload properly, I still was able to see it until I cleared the Browser Cache, I have had that happen alot lately since PR has been rolling out the upgrades, just a glitch! | You can test with HD tach, the scores will be a bit different though http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/index.php?request=HdTach Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 05-January-06 at 04:45 AM. | ||

| It is the nvidia drivers... i noticed that when i installed them so i know for a fact that it is them... Hmm, i wonder if the nvidia drivers are causing me to have cd burning problems with any program other than whats included with windows.... When i use nero It always locks up and the cd drive light flashes like its doing something but the cd comes out blank when i restart.... hmm... time to investigate... | ||
