7600 GS lagging behind X700 Pro?

Hey guys, quick question.

I recently ordered a geforce 7600 GS to replace my aging radeon X700 Pro. I did this because in all the reviews I could find, the 7600 GS is ahead of both the X700 pro and it's rival, the 6600GT. Even on paper, it is a superior card in every aspect and wins by 5-10 fps in the VGA charts.

However, when I popped it in my machine today, my halflife 2 stress test score went from 78fps to 67fps and my 3dmark05 score went from 3129 to 2861. Is there something I'm missing here? I installed the latest drivers from the nvidia site, why is this card eating sh*t next to an X700? Even overclocked from 400/266 to 500/300, the card loses by a large margin.

HL2 loves ATI cards. Valve and ATI worked out a deal early on and the game runs better on ATI based cards (at least cards at the time of the release). Doesn't really explain the 3dmark score though. Good luck, I'd try formatting your computer if you haven't already done that.
