| One thing that Microsoft and Nintendo seem to realize is that gamers get really excited and pick sides. They try to make their business strategies pretty transparent to give the company a human face and amicability, rewarding their fans with info and little treats. Nintendo's got this thing down, even I can't help from smiling when Miyamoto strolls in, and Microsoft does this with Xbox live.
If Sony has ever done this at all, and I don't really think they do, they seem to be pandering to the school shooter stereotype. Not really creative (not many new ideas from Sony, just doing others' "better"), secretive, an ego built by tearing others down, an obsession with black, and a pinch of "I'm an artist, even if nobody understands me" in their marketing. And, of course, violent video games. Now they've tacked on the "I thought maybe he's actually a good guy if you get to know him, but it turns out he really is an asshole" thing. |
