Talking PS3 Preorder Fallout

PS3 Preorder Fallout :furious3:
Linky

Quote:
PS3 pre-orders hit eBay at $1000 and up, EB employees accused of unfair ordering

Earlier we reported that GameStop and EB Games were today starting pre-orders for PS3. DailyTech reader "05SilverGT" commented that his local GameStop had already filled up its pre-order allocation at the time of the store's opening, hypothesizing that GameStop employees may have a hand in the instantaneous sell-outs. Apparently, our reader's experience may not be unique.
It appears that EB Games and GameStop employees are permitted to purchase PS3 without going through the usual hoops that a consumer must jump. A Kotaku writer shares his experience at EB Games:
I'm always shocked at how blatantly obnoxious some of those guys can be. When I asked them about Playstation 3s, the manager on duty told me that every store in the chain is getting about four or five each, which means they aren't getting any. I asked him to explain and he said, while literally rubbing his hands together, "They're letting employees buy PS3s, so there won't be any left." I asked if they have to stand in line and he said no, the second we open we'll just buy them up. He did say that they can only buy one each, but I'm guessing most stories have at least five employees smart enough to know how to use Ebay.
With only 400,000 units slated for North America, this isn't the least bit surprising. In fact, some PS3 pre-orders have already hit eBay in the four-digit dollar range.
EB Games and Gamestop had a bit of a problem with XBOX 360 preorders as well. Thousands of preorders placed as early as May 2005 were not filled until almost two months after the launch of the console.

This is why it should not be for employees....we are the customers!! Not that I am doing the same thing. But its not fair to some.

I'm laughing so hard right now, I'm peeing my pants!!!

:p

This is absolutely priceless. Sony wants to limit the number of PS3s that they can make to keep the demand up; however, demand is going to plummet when the price tag is over $1,000 for a system. Folks ain't gonna wait around for six months to a year to buy one of these systems if they can't afford the $1K+ that they will sell for on e-Bay.

They'll pick up a Nintendo Wii, buy a PC game, or just keep playing their PS2 and/or X-Box.

Each store is only allowed to have two employees purchase a PS3 pre-order.

Regardless...with most stores getting around 8, that doesn't leave a lot left for the customer...

And Rob, I think they'll be plenty of Europeans with itchy trigger fingers and extra cash to buy a PS3 from America on Ebay...

They don't get it until March, and the system is Region free...only thing they have to worry about is power and hope that the PS3 doesn't blow up when they put the wrong voltage in it...

I honestly bet you will see a few fetch $2000 just because of the limited quanities.

And Rob has a good point, Sony is kicking their own ass by even allowing this launch. Why not wait till everyone can purchase one if they can. Like Rob said, many of us are going to go with the Wii now or just stick with what we have until this madness is over!

I have never understood why these companies can't just wait it out until their good and ready to make an official launch where there is no empty shelves. I think it makes them look bad and its disrespectful to the consumer. You build their hope up and then crush it when you go to the store Nov 17th to find out....FAT CHANCE see you in 6 months when we get the bugs out and actually have some on the shelves for you to buy. ****, by then I will have bought other systems and games and Sony can shove it up their asses.

LOL, this reminds me of what a friend of mine did. When the "Furby" craze was in full swing he worked at a store that sold them. He got a pallet of them in, took one to the front and asked the cashier to scan it for 100 units. As he was loading the Furby into his truck his manager ran outside and told him 'Frubies or your job, you decide'. His plan was to resell them to the people willing to pay WAY to much for them.

p.s. he kept his job and left with only 1.
