| It stands for fire breathing dragon... i started out with a chieftec dragon case and a soyo p4x400 dragon ultra mobo..so the title seemed appropiate..plus I am trying out to use a lot of UV in this (about 6 80mm ccfl's) well at first, I added 2 80mm blow holes to the top ![]() After i added the 80mm blow holes i decided to clean them up a bit and add some dragon fan grills (more pics later) I also added a lot of fans and started out with a pretty disorganized case ![]() Pretty scary huh? yea i know At any rate.. one of the round 80mm ccfls broke, so i called up ultra and they...instead of sending me a dual ccfl kit...sent me an 80mv UV cold cathode fan... smart huh?! Well this was a stroke of luck because I wanted to add an exhaust fan to my psu (OCZ modstream 520W) But, since it was a ccfl fan, i needed to splice the wires and I ripped off the molex connector from one of my older fans to get this ![]() When i got done with it it looked like this. I also cleaned up the inside a tad with some sleeving ![]() But the ccfl's were still a little disorganized on top So i needed to clean that up... another thing that bothered me was my thermaltake smartfan II. It was way too loud, but i couldnt add in a 120mm and a 92mm fan, its too small, but i could add two 92mm fans, I had two enermax...which were supposed t put out 64cfm at 2800...but when i checked the fans speed, it only reported 2600, and In order for my intake to equal my exhaust, i NEEDED the 64cfm to be exact. So i decided to splice both of the fans into a molex connector to achieve lower resistance and hopefully a higher current, and it worked...BOTH fans went at a total of 3000 RPM's..this means that they probably go at about 68cfm, which was delightful, and a lot m ore quiet than my thermaltake smart fan II ![]() Afterwards I cleaned up the wires a bit and got this.. But i still need to add in 2 round ccfl's to the rear exhaust fans...but due to the chieftec design.. I need to cut into the rear and make some drill holes etc. so that i can attach the round ccfl. And i also need to do some sleeving to clean that up as well (and hide that damn black 12v inverter) ![]() Now does anyone have any suggestions on what else to do to this case? I mean i think the cable clean up is going well thus far which was one of my main objectives in this (I have ALWAYS had a messy case and this is the first time i attempted to clean it up) I also need to solder and sleeve the 92mm enermax fans which i "overclocked" So anything else I should consider to put into this case (Oh yeah, I am going to make my own switch system int he front to control all six ccfl's. I already insttalled one switch in a 5.25 drive bay, and I HOPE i can run the others in the same fashion. | ||

| If you have the time, I would reccomend painting the chasis of the case. A black chasis would offset the blue quite nicely, or you could go with all blue. If you really want to do it right, take a 1/8th drill bit and remove all rivets to paint each piece seperatley. A top window might look pretty snazzy as well. | ||

| only problem with a top window is the dual 80mm fans on top..there isnt too much room up top to do anything..like if i did, i would have nothing to glue the window too and it might end up looking awkward..as for the inside...perhaps a gun metal would look nice to match the PSU (I dont wanna mod the psu too much for i just recently purchased it and dont wanna void the warrenty) I Also don't care for the window that much (its pre modded..i know i know) So i might end up buying a replacement side for this case and add a window to that myself that suits my needs a bit more but this is still a work in progress and the main objective here was to teach me some cabeling techniques...which i have I might end up painting the case flourescent green on the outside ot maybe ill give it a darker blue hey i got a question... if I start with primer...and add a couple of coats of gold..and then sprayed blue on top of it...would the gold shimmer shine through?...like would u still get a hint of gold? | ||

| No, if you sprayed blue on top of gold, the gold would not shine through. The only way it would shine through would be if you sprayed one very light coat of blue, but even then it would look pretty ugly. I would reccomend going with a solid color. | ||

| sounds good...well its a good thing i didnt try it out or it would have been a trip and a half i just wish i had more time on my hands to do a fll fledge mod or somesort cuz right now all im really doing is the clean up process for most mods Also, I have seen many people color their fans...but wouldnt coloring the blades have an adverse effect on their performance, because the paint doesn add some weight to the blades, so the motor wouldnt be able to push them as fast Also, does anyoine think there is a way to add the rear fan on without using zipties and without voiding the warrenty? I guess i can go with a larger fan, but i feel that would look uglier than as is | ||

| here is the new development, I had to cut holes in the back so i can add the ccfl's onto them (the screwless fan device that chieftec provided did not allow the addition of the ccfl's because they added not only width but girth to the fans) The cuts couldnt be awesome because of the precut holes in the back which i more or less needed to utizilize..but i do plan to clean the holes up a bit and add a thicker grill to the back to mask the precut square holes. ![]() 1)sleeve the electrically modded 92mm fan wires and the mobo->case wires to give the case an overall clean look.. 2)Thinking about paintnig the inside a gun metal to match the PSU 3) Paint the outside a similiar blue to what is there now. 4)Make cpu fan and the intake fans UV reactive by painting them 5) Perhaps UV blue sleeving for the PSU wires 6) Bondo the front and then stencil a dragonesque design in front and put a plexi glass window behind it and light it up with Orange LED's which i have switches for to turn em on and off 7) put in a nicer USB 2.0 drive with 4 ports into the front OKAY now time to ask for help, does anyone have any nice dragon stencils preferably one of the face that i can cut out in front 2) the inside is curved inwards so what can i use to fill it in, id imagine bondo would be too costly or it wouldn't provide enough structure for the inside 3) Any particular spray paint i should use for the gun metal/blue I haven't looked around but if you guys can give me some online retailers that would be ultra sweet 4) THANKS a lot for the help PEACE Last edited by WuGgaRoO; 30-July-06 at 11:56 PM.. | ||

| Just wondering but FBG = Fire Breathing Dragon? What does the "G" stand for? As far as the mod goes, you are doing a good job. I like the blue and as stated before I would recommend painting the chassis black. Other than that you seem to have some good ideas! | ||

CCFL's don't create that much heat at all. Have you ever used them before? In the acronym they even have the word cold in there... PS sorry for the double post.

lol how did i not notice that...wow.. lol..well now im changing the title, The Project Formally Known as FBG or FBGD fire-breathing-god-dragon any opinions on which i should try and also: i thought they were called cold cathodes for a reason, but i would imagine that if they were in massive quantity, they would produce a significant amount of heat....or is it totally negligible

| I have built computers that had 10 cathodes in them, and there was no difference with or without them. They just don't pull that much juice. Although those were special requests and all of them weren't on at once, except for testing, there really is no need for more than say around 6, especially if they aren't on all at once. More than 2 of one color won't really make a difference in brightness, so it's really up to you how you do it. Even if you decide to go crazy and put for example 10 in there, your temps won't rise much if at all. | ||
