| So with the weekend here it time to build some sweet matching shelves to the ones I already got, with some alterations... Basically this project is goin to be to organize and simplify how I have all my equipment. On my finished shelf going from bottom to top I have my xbox, Harmon AVR 140, G4 tower and Phoenix rig, printer and speaker. On my new shelf I've got more "hands on" things such as my iBook G4 and my Behringer UMX24 midi controller, and Numark 950 USB mixer. My plan is to put my Boston 10" Sub on the bottom "shelf" although it will not technically be on a shelf, It'll just be open. Above that possibly my CD binder then above my mixer on a slide out shelf with my wireless router in the back. Above that on another slide out shelf would be my midi controller, and lastly topped out with my iBook G4 and a speaker. The shelf would consist of particle board shelves with threaded poles and nuts for the verticle struts. I am still trying to figure out a sturdy mechanism to have the shelves slide out yet be strong enough to hold and play with my mixer and midi controller. If you have suggestions please let me know! Now to dimension this sucker up and get to work! Here is the Shelf I have done (not everything is on there though) | ||

| (Width-Depth-Height) Behringer UMX25 midi controller- 495mm x 215mm x 97mm Numark DM 950USB- 154mm x 254mm x 102mm ~approx dims were in Inches {mm rounded up} iBook G4- 285mm x 232mm x 34mm Boston Sub- 305mm x 420mm x 420mm D-Link wireless Router- 60mm x 105mm x 145mm Speakers- 110mm x 160mm x 175mm *just had a newer idea, since the width of both the mixer and the midi controller arent that much put them on the same shelf and have them slide out perpendictular to the shelf * Board dim- 540mm x 410mm x 20mm (may end up getting a bit wider) Nuts- 20mm high Desired height of shelf- 920mm Last edited by Dreyco; 21-July-06 at 03:40 PM.. | ||

| #1 - You cheesehead, you should know that unless you are dealing with an automotive supplier, dimensions in the U. S. of A. are given in ANSI standards... Inches man! #2 - The company I work for makes many different types of slide mechanisms... one of them is bound to do what you need: Link | ||

| Ok so heres the lay out Bottom: 500mm for the sub (no vibrations) Next: 150mm for Router and Surge Protector (may put a divider so I can put my CD binder there) Next: at least 105mm for mixer and keyboard Top: Laptop & speaker Therefore I have at least 120mm of play in the shelves for the mechanism to slide in and out Shelves will have to be 650mm between Struts but the same 410mm Depth Sketch up soon then off to Menards! | ||

| Woo, progress came to a screaching halt for a couple days because of finals in my summer calculus class but Im done and work resumes in the 100+ degree heat! Pictures will follow as soon as actuall visable work can be shown, so far I had to put the table saw together and mark off the boards. My equipment that I got off ebay just keeps coming in so I need to get these done! | ||

| Pictures Pictures!!! First one is pretty self explaining... all the equipment minus the shelf boards... the threaded poles are 5/8" and 3" tall (already cut them with a dremel from 6") I ended getting heavy duty 100lb ball bearing shelve sliders... that ought to hold my 20lb of stuff plu me banging on it! The 2x2's there will serve as the holders for the sliders and I have already cut them to length and attached the sliders. ![]() One of the woes of summer is that the power can be finicky in my area due to the high heat and older homes (30 years old isnt old but old enough that the power cables suck) that means using our new table saw is out of the question... Here i have a straight edge to use a saber saw against... ![]() Oh no a picture of me! thats with the decent craftsmen saber saw before it went haywire and the dead mans switch... went dead?!?! and now runs all the time when plugged in. ![]() Not wanting to loose fingers due to a crazy saw I ended up getting a cheap little "compainion" saber saw at sears which didnt cut straight WITH a straight edge, the blade bent. So I ended up doing the last board by hand and cleaning up the edge with a straight edge and a belt sander. Next came the joys of my first use of a table router. It does a nice job of making the boards look nice but you can see the brown marks where the wood actually got scorched by the bit. Being a n00b to routers when the bit needed to be raised after cutting a board I tried to fix it and burned my index finger and thumb (not fun typing this) ![]() here we have my boards all painted, the marks in the photo are spots on the lense of my camera (needs to be cleaned) All that is left is to drill holes and put it all together tomarrow morning! almost forgot about the speaker stands but more on that later! ![]() Looking forward to putting everthing on there! | ||

| Apex Advanced Techie | Wood burnt b/c you ran them through to fast. You shouldnt be pushing the board through with your hands or immediately touch it afterwards(but now you know that). But all in all its lookin goood just dont burn yourself any more man.. | |

What's nice about this setup is that if you get new stuff you can just adjust the shelves and it looks like it was made for it. New pictures later tonight and then speaker stands! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
