If it's not too late, set one case on top of the other 90 degrees different. See how it looks. Or, envision one case cut in half and play with positioning the two halfs on the whole case.

What motherboard/ form factor are you gonna use?

joecoin,

interesitng idea about rotating the case. I tried, it and it didn't look good to me. I might use the idea / concept for my next case mod. With such limited time, its going to be hard to experiment too much. But i do still have a few surprises up my sleeve

As for mobo formfactor, I will be using eVGA's NF4 mATX SLI mobo. This case is going to be SLI baby!!!

Too bad there isn't a benching contest at the LAN.

mkmod - are you serious? I've played with both the NF41 and NF47 and both OC just fine I got both of them to over 3.2Ghz. The problem w/ the NF41 was the T1 timing with TCCD. On both board, no mater what Ram I used, I couldn't get over 270Mhz. So I had to use dividers.

Is teh 210 issue w/ the NF44 motherboard? WEll.. if it is or isn't.. I can't do much about it. the EVGA NF44 is the only mATX sli mobo out there, so I think its the best choice for this project I should have the mobo probably sometime next week. I will bench it a little before shoving it intothe case.

I made a different version of the Hornet SFF logo. Wanted to see if you are interested in it before I finish it up with shading and detail. Edit: I just did this for fun.. it is tacky, I know. But would make a neat case badge.

Very serious, so serious I am putting my DFI Expert in my qpack instead. What if you used the other case to make the hornet a little longer? Is there enough width for a ATX?
I tried my Geil ONE, Mushkin and OCZ mem and no OC(nothing over 220). It was as bad as my Asus 6150.

I have a hornet and was gonna mount the ATX mobo 45 degrees to fit with a 45 degree DVD as well, lol.

But the hornet case cost too much to hack up like the Qpack.

Suggestions.. Honestly, I think whatever you come up with will look great. All because it was a "Hornet" case doesn't mean you have to fall into that theme

My inital thought, Unless you intended for everyone to know you've stacked 2 cases, I'd fab one bezel piece to fit over both cases. You don't need 2 pwr, reset, switches, leds.. You can still play off the "stacked" theme, but show people you've taken it beyond just stacking. I'd bet you're thoughts are already there

btw: mcmaster.com sells 12" x 24" mirrored finish 6061 aluminum sheets.

Seye,

Damn man.. that Hornet is AWESOME.. you got some mad skillz!! I might need to get some assitance from you on this project.. I need to think out some things 1st, then I'll PM you BTW did you do that in photoshop or illustrator?

MNPC-Tech -

Hey. you read my mind Well.. I have some cool concepts / idea for a hornet concept. Mainly I always wanted to use "yellow".. and I have a few tricks up my sleeve to follow the hornet theme. The case won' tlook like ahornet, but have hornet coloring scheme.

As fo the front bezel, you must be reading my mind I will be fabricating the front to one large panel.

Everyone - just hold on tight.. this is going to be one wild ride

I use a wacom intuos3 4"x5" drawing tablet.

Talking Re: Project: Super Hornet - Dual SFF Case Mod

Hey Folks,
Here is the update I promised. This pass weekend I didn’t do as much physical work on the case as I hoped. I actually spent the majority of the weekend finalizing some design and mod concepts. With a short time line, I need to put the order for my parts now, so I can have them ready for modding.

I wanted to keep the case as clean as possible. Instead of fabricating a new case flooring, I decided to reuse the original case floor. So here is pic of it:

Here is a pic of the main portion of the case after it has been shortened. It is hard to tell that it was actually reduced in height:

Here is a picture of the bottom portion of the case reassembled. The only thing I need to do is rivet the bottom plate to the frame and I am done. I will actually leave the riveting towards the end. I need to paint the frame first.

Here is a side by side comparison of the shorterened hornet to the original hornet.

Here is a pictures of the 2 hornet stacked together.

I was actually hoping to make the bottom portion almost 2” shorter, but after laying out the GTSBIP240 radiator and the full ATX PSU, it would not fit. So I actually had to stand the radiator on its side to fully fit.

So that is the extent of the physical modding I have done so far. I hope you are enjoy the case mod as much as I am. If you have any comments / questions / suggestions, please feel free to post them.

Regards,

SAD

I like how you did that. Making notes...

Maybe you can use the chopped bits to reinforce the connection of the cases.

Ok folks. I need a some help from you cyber shoppers

I really would like to put a ring illuminated Vandal switch on my computer, but those buggers cost over $20 each. I know performance PCS has the for like $15 on sale right now, but the colors they have aren't the ones I need

Bulgin now has Yellow / Amber and White rings now, which will go great with my case. Does anyone know where I can get them for sub $20??

Scoured the net. Very few sites have them at all, usually german, italian, or uk.

Search for amber on this site for some alternatives. http://www.allelectronics.com/ Tons of other good stuff there.
