Smile Project; Call of Duty

This project was started before I went to work on my "other" (now completed, "Episode NOT Lost) project...

Victim was a beige full tower of unknown origin.... since it resembles early ATX A-Open towers, it's
probably one of those.... This 'mod was going to house my new gaming 'rig... (hardware to buy in early 2007...)... Strange how things can go... after joining Pimprig/PC Apex I put a lot of spare time in the PVR
'mod... in the mean time, this full tower was standing in the closet gathering dust.....

After completing the PVR I wanted to pick up the project again..... but found out that my preference had changed.... (must be all the hours of reading & discussing, I did, here at PC Apex..lol...). I'm leaning
more to a case like the "original" Coolermaster Stacker now.....

In short, I did not really want to finish it.... I gave it to my neighbour who's going through some pretty
rough times now... he's currently unemployed & may face a nasty operation on both his wrists....You should have seen the look in his eyes! He was just about to give me a hug.... Priceless! I'm glad he's
going to enjoy the hours I put into this one.... but on to the 'pics!!!!

I made 4, 80mm holes in this baby... on in the top panel, one above the PSU holder, one up front
(behind the 'Sarge stripes...) and one in the side panel....

I planned to fit 3 AC Ryan UV Reactive Green Backfire fans... (will use them on my new case) and
one slimline Zalman 80mm fan.... Love those AC Ryan fans.... they can be quiet but can also move lots
of air, when needed.... plus they've got seperate power lines for the quad leds!

This was a pain in the butt, to accomplish.... tools; dremel + a set of files... filing, filing, LOTS of filing!
I was going to fit a bent piece of acrylic behind the stripes (MasterP Style...)... but never got to the "bending" part.... now my neighbour will have a shot on it! I already made a mold of clay to use....
The LED fan behind this should have really lit the "stripes" up!!

And there is the side/window panel.... I already cut out some UV Green 'plexi to use as a window &
"backer" for the characters... The fan intake was going to be fitted with a nice "hammer & sickle"
lasercut grille

And, finally, a 'pic from the back panel..... as you can see, both panels are a darker shade of green
then the top & front.... Note the wooden "foot".... I sanded, polished & colored it so you can still see the
wood pattern... kinda like the wood on a rifle....

The Zalman fan controller & Sunbeam Rheobus I 'modded for this project will.. like the fans... find a new home in my next case....

Well... I hope you enjoyed it... I know it isn't a 100% finished but I still wanted to share this with you.
Really hope you like it!

Nice job. huge case. And is your neighbor having Carpal Tunnel Release surgery? If so, it ain't that bad, I just had both wrists done in June. Recovery and physical therapy si gonna be a PITA, but it is worth it.

Unfortunately not.... (seems odd to say this..) It's something with his joints.... seems to run in his family...

Nice cuts on the stripes... Gonna add some yellow/gold pinstriping along the edges to really make it pop?

I'll tell this to the new owner, my neighbour, sounds like a good idea!

Woa that looks great! Too bad you won't be finishing it (although it's pretty much there...). Does your neighbor mod as well? So are you going to stick to a CoD theme with the CM stacker or are you gunna do CoD2 =P

No.... the CM Stacker won't be 'modded to a "theme"... in fact... most 'mods will be geared to the "delicate"
balance between "performance & sound production
"...lol... sounds a bit 'daft.. I know... So, expect
"decoupled" fans... fan controllers, electronics, thermal probes, lots'& lot's of wire... (which will be a challenge to hide..)...

I intend to "focus" on 2D vs. 3D mode.... in other words... SILENCE when working in
Windows.... appz or "windowed" games....

But... PERFORMANCE when doing some serious 3D gaming....

I'll buy hardware to fit this 'thought... a "modular" 80+ efficiency PSU with a slow turning fan,
a "next-gen" Dual Core AMD or Intel CPU with a lower thermal envelope... (yup... these will cost extra
than the "common" ones..they perform equallly... but I'll gladly pay more for one!)
, a raid-1 setup
(Samsung or Seagate ... Hitachi is the "runner up").... Single GPU with a big heatpipe cooler....
and, probablty a MASSIVE heatpipe CPU cooler....

I've got plenty of ideas.... but I'm not going to give them away... yet!

TDR

ps... yup.. the neighbour knows how to 'mod...
