Default project - "CLAW"

well here i am with my first thread, i've just read the rules and apologize for putting a gallery of my unfinished project in the main gallery!!
after some serious think tank time i've decided what i'm doing. i'm going to do two projects, the first being a practice run if u like and the second being a bit more edgy!!
my first case has been stripped down ready for chopping and respraying etc.....( you may have seen it in the main gallery??)
the inside cage will be sprayed black to help with the lighting effects while the outer shell will be sprayed in a nice glossy red with green graphics ( maybe tribal tatoo stylee )
unfortunately, due to inexperience and the wrong tools i made a mess up of the front panel, so i'm going to replace it with plexiglass ( or whatever the plastic stuff is called?! ) just one sheet mounted on four 2" pipes,( no sides! ) the drive's will be stealthed by making a hinged door in front of them, the door being blacked out with window tint ( led's will come through the tint, already tested it! ) at the bottem of the panel will be mounted my pocket pc ( hp jornada ) stripped of it's casing so you will see the inner workings.
the actual metal behind the front panel will either be smoothed off and sprayed with the same red or it will be covered with a mirror!!
the light's on the inside i already have, two cold cathode tubes, one red the other green .( to match the colour of the case ) i also have a red led fan.
my hardware is as follows.....
amd athlon xp 1ghz ( i know, i know!!! )
512mb ddr ram
via syntax sv266a mobo socket A
matrox millennium g400 dualhead vga card
creative soundblaster mp3 ( ext usb soundcard dig/ana opt in and out 2x rca in/out and headphone/mic sockets )
maxtor 80 gig hdd ( master hdd )
fujitsu 20 gig hdd ( slave hdd )
hp cd writer
no floppy at present
taurus x psu
cooling at present is......
standard cpu heatsink and fan
5 extra case fans ( the red led one and four normal ones )
two fans at back, two up the front, airflow coming from the front and out the back.
and one fan sat underneath my vga card.
the cooling is one thing that definately needs sorting as my cpu has for the last few days been jumping up in temperature,
it used to run at about 26-32 degrees C, then about a few days ago it was running at between 46 and 48 degrees C and just last night it jumped again up to around 52 - 61 degrees C.
unfortunately these aren't acurate readings as my mobo says on thing and my monitor lcd says another?!?!?!
this is all at idle speeds or with just my browser running!!
anyway, i will detail my other project in a second thread.......
any comments or suggestions are welcome along with any constructive critasysm ( sorry about the last spelling!! lol )
watch this space.....................

Dude! I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything like that. I really would like to read your post and see what kind of idea's you have. But that font and colors are killing my eyes, not very pleasing/easy to read.

Uhg, difficult to read. Please use standard colors (and preferably standard font). I would say go for watercooling if you can afford it. It looks cooler and, if you assemble your own setup, will cool more efficiently than air. If you are looking at cost efficiency, you might want to consider buying a new heatsink to deal with your heat issue.
Let's see the case you're gunna work with!

sorry, will keep the font simple from now on!! well, if the attachments work here is my case getting prepped for spraying etc, it has two blow holes at the bottom on the front and two at the back higher up and then 1 in the window......
i did find something the other day in my local shop, i cant remember the make or model but basically it's a huge mother of a heat sink with a copper pipe running down through the center and a fan on the side of the sink. the pipe is to hold water and i think ( not sure ) i have to buy the pump and pipes seperately, the cost was about £35 - £40.
what do you think? as i am on a very limiting budget!!
also i will now be getting a new mobo and cpu when i get some money that is owed to me but this will be for my other case and i should have enough left for some decent cooling.
but for the mean time i have to go with what i have, hence the need for advice on cooling on a budget!
thanks guys.....

You should cut out the stock hole fan guards before you paint it. They lower air flow and they just look ugly.

already have that planned as i know that the way they are now are probably only allowing about 20-30% airflow, not good in my case, i need as much cool air flowing past that cpu as possible!!

Yes “CREATIVE” is to be commended.

But simple folk like simple fonts. AND it would be easier on the eyes if the fonts were all similar and donÂ’t educe epileptic seizures when being read.

I hope your Mod turns out the way you want.

Question Re: mrmobeus' first ever project

I've looked at the 'pics a few times.... and I'm a bit "puzzled"... in the lower half of the case.... are those
"reflections" of somekind? Looks a bit like reflection from water.... makes it hard to judge the quality of the
paint... could you please post some new pictures?

Don't try to 'nag here.... just want to give you a fair comment...

TDR

btw... voted for air cooling.... this one is a bit small for WC, imho... unless you use a "reserator" or something like that...

Almost looks like the paint hasn't dried properly. You should wait a day or so and take another pic. Also did you use primer before you painted? If you didn't then you will regret it when you go to putting everything back together. You think it looks all nice and then BAM a huge scratch right in the middle of your beautiful black paint.

The best advice anyone can give on painting is take your time. you can recoat primer in about an hour, and you need at least 2 coats. After that start your color coat, and make thin coats instead of thick ones. They will take a little longer to dry. After you are satisfied with it then I would let it dry a day or so, then clearcoat it with several thin coats. You can get gloss or matte clearcoat, depending on the look you are going for.
After you clearcoat it let it dry at least a day before handling it and then you should be pleased with a job well done.

Yes, you definately need to strip that off. You need a good base of primer to make the paint really grab the metal. The key to a good paintjob is preparation.
