Default attempting a homemade plexi glass enclosure

hey guys im paint dept manager at my local lowes store and since i am i come across some GREAT deals sometimes just like yesterday...i got 10 sheets of cracked acrylic plexi for 1.00!!!! lol....and well im in the midst ofbuilding another rig... but i figure for the 11 bucks i could sink into a case i could sacrifice some time and make a case out of this stuff what have i got to lose.. i can take the rest of my money and put it towards another stick of ram er something... im building this case pretty big cause i like cases big the bigger they are i think the better they are... well heres where i am so far.. lol

its coming along pretty good the reason it looks off is cause i ran outta machine screws and l brackets...
heres some pics i put on here of my other rig im currently running

looks good, but what else do you have in mind to securethem together. remember, those panels are gonna get a bit heaver as more pieces start to add up and hardware too... jus a heads up.

What I personally tried on my last project was to cut grooves into the plexi and cement the pieces together(kinda like woodwork), then if needed I put brackets. I tried to stay away from those since they change the look of the case..unless thats what you're looking for. Good luck with the rest.

well see thats the thing i dunno and the problem is..i wanna lug this aroudn to to my biddies and after i put in my hardware and stuff things will add up....
i was thinking maybe of using a clear epoxy resin....
and then oing over top of it with a tube of clear silicone but im afriad it will make the case look liek a shotty job.. i mean ive been at it now for atleast 5 housr and SO FAR its outcome has been great...
i dont wanan get all the way finished and u know I KNOW silicone would seal it REALLY GOOD (airflow wise) cause not everything is going to line up..
but liek u said weight will be an issue..
what u all think i should do?

Haha I remeber those speakers.

You might try some of these. They'll look a lot better and will probably do a better job of holding it together.

Other than that looks great.

guys i have a question..i hope i just word it right.. when it comes to an acrylic case... nd an aluminum case i thought the WHOLE case was the ground for the computer... how can that be for a plexi case because its non conductive material? in other wrds i guess what im trying to say is... do i have to wire the PS up a special way or do i just wire it up normal and everything will work...i hope i said this the right way... lol u guys understand what i mean THANKS IN ADVANCE for helping me

The case is just that a case. The components will work sitting on a table all connected together. So no special ground wires or custom wiring needed.Jo

Two words - SHOE GOO! Amazing Goop, whatever they call it, it works. Its waterproof , clear, and strong enough to hold my steel toes together for another 6 months. If you were to dam it up at each seam, I wouldn't be surprised if that alone would hold it together. I know I have preached of its usefulness on here for a while, but it really is a modder's wonder adhesive. It is rubbery so it wont damage anything you glue it to and can easily be peeled away so you can reuse any parts that have been glued. I bet you could make drive cages completely out of plexi and glue.

Most of the time it isn't cost effective to build a plexi case, but in your case (pun intended ) it is worth a go. Hope you can make it happen and good luck with the assembly!

Thumbs up Re: attempting a homemade plexi glass enclosure

i'm new to this so i hope i word this correctly!! i think your'e doing a wicked job so far, i mean i see plexi cases all the time in a shop in town, but like with all other premod cases, they all look the same!!
as with your case on the other hand, it looks much better because one, it's a lot larger and secondly it has that home built look ( A GOOD THING!! ) the kind of look where you know that the person building the case has taken great care and time with their project unlike premodde cases that run off an assembly line!!
so thumbs up dude for a great job so far!!

ok i had to work the past 2 days so i aint had much time.. i worked on it a lil bit tonight and my girlfriend helped me get the cd burner in.and i got it mounted.. i put some left over logysis case feet i had from a premodded computer for lighted feet... the clear fit the style im going for so i stole them from that.theres a couple places thats longer then the other and longer on one side then thje other but when i get it EVERYBIT ASSEMBLED im going to take a marker like ive been doingmake lines where i need to cut and trim it up...take my DA sander with 320 grit paper and smooth em back out and u wont be able to tell it... it sucks cause EVERYTIME i wanna/need to make a new drill hole for this case i have to take it ALL apart.but ahhh its better then trying to rush and do it with a portable drill and applying pressure and cracking and running with my drill but etc... a drill press m akes things alot easier.but im just babling on heres the pics..ill work more on it sunday seeing as if i have to work ALL DAY tomorrow.
til then tell me what u all think guys LATERRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

p.s. like i said.. I KNOW it looks like crap and a halfassed put together job but it WILL BE SMOOTHED up when it is fully assembled..

my videocard came in...its a PCI-E..its one of them cards thats l;ike ifu have 512 mg ram in ur system its a 256 card and if u have 1 gig of ram its a 512 card...im going to put 3 sticks of 512 in the system.... and have it run liek a 512 card... its a g-force 7300 i got the card u know just to have the newest pixel shading and everyuthing to play the newest games i just mainly am making this a BF2 system cause i love the came SOOOOOO much lol....but anyways heres the pics... im not worried if its a big high end card.... it will do what i want it to do... even on medium setting or whatever..and not at high resolutions etc... i think where i took the stock fan off it will fix some overheating issues look at how poorly made theheatsink ws made in my pics... and then with what i put back on in its place a 2 sided heasink with a copper transfer line..and it bolts DIRECTLY through the videocars where the stock springs used to be thsi thing was a bitch to put on small screws, and i even changed the heatsink paste that came WITH the new cooler to artic silver... well anyways heres somne pics for u all to see it..

It might be a little easier to tell WTF you are saying if you tried a little paragrapg formatting. Most of us are intelligent people and it is kinda annoying when you see 1 paragraph 5 miles long with no breaks in it. I am not trying to be a D1ck, just trying to help ya out.

It looks like you are doing a great job so far, IMO.

Edit: Has anyone ever told you that you look like Dwight from The Office? Linky

I do so like the clear hard drive.I want to do the same thing with a old 10gig and sit above my main 120 gig.Just have not got to it yet.I find the plexi case is not the easiest to open up to work on compared to other quick release type metal cases.Lookin`Good,Jo

well long time no hear from me i gave up on the plexi glass case... it was jsut.. NOT WORKING out.. lol...
so i went with that 20 dollar entry server case from SVC that logisys black one... heres the link and i put me a window in it... and repainted it...

http://www.svc.com/cs901bk.html

go there and check it out.. ordered my processor tonight.. it was a 3400+ athlon 64...
ALL ill need to play my BF2 and stuff... just an average gaming rig anyways.. added the extra fan to my CPU cooler tonight...
ummm sleeved my cables on my 680 watt power supply...
had to cut my chipset cooler fan on my mobo to clear the HUGE video card cooler i installed on it.. got my artic silver 5 in the mail... umm i sanded the bottom of my CPU cooler tonight to give it a good surface to transfer heat good... the center pipe is copper but the fins are aluminum... this thing will prolly scream really loud but i dont care SOUND is not an issue... i love my computer loud.. lets me know somethings actually running in it... and thats pretty much it... had to cut some wires and resolder themon my CPU cooler... just waiting now for my 3400+ to get here.. and then all i like is my RAM...
what do u guys think i should go with...

2 gig of memory (off brand) TO HAVE MORE...
ORRR
1 gig of name brand Kington or Crucial or Corsair...

which one would be better? i know peeps say more is better but looks lie if u paid the same amount for GOOD RAM as paying the same for off brand 2 gig.. u know ... ahh u all know what im trying to say.. whioch way should a fellar go? anyways heres pics... i think i did OK on my window cut.. could been better but ahhh im not picky... get he job done and i didnt have to pay extra to see the guts...BY THE WAY the case is HUGE.. i love it...and the removable motherboard tray is REALLLLLY nice... works awesome its going to be easy to install all my stuff on it.. then all i have to do is slide it in and were done...well anyways tell me what u al lthink about my RAM issue which way should i go LATERRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

stuck a piece of ram in my new one tonight and it fired right up... just a STICK OF 2100...256MB. but only tto load windows on it... im going to next paychjeck put 2 gig in this... on ddr400...so it should scream...
anyways loaded all my new nvidia drivers. directx 9. all my video codecs... monitoring hardware... etc... and well with that HUGE videocard cooler after playing DOOM 3 with 256mb of 2100 IT LAGGED on high quality but not all that bad so i cant wait to see my final product when i put all that other in... and after playing for about 15-20 min my GPU temp never went over 50.... ON LOAD... and my CPU temp in the bios has stayed at 38-40*C....on idle and gets up to 46* load... like i said before the reason its lagging and stuff is cause the ram ...its starving for it.. but ATLEAST IM SOO HAPPY first turn on and it booted right up.. using my spare 80 gig in it... all i need for a gaming setup... im VERY happy with this.. heres pics...
LOL I WAS going to test it with aquamark but my monitor is so old it cant handle the high resolutions so i gave up on it...
