| FTW?!?!? Necro doing Watercooling? Did hell freeze over yesterday?!?!?! Yepper, I have had this AMD XP Watercooling setup staring at me for way too long, just begging for me to do SOMETHING with it...a freind gave it to me long ago when he went to an air cooled AMD-64. Anyways, this "Piece of Work" features crudded up tygon tubing, a cracked and epoxied 10 times over reservoir, and an unknown pump that appears to be 110v AC, and a small aluminum radiator. At the heart beats an ancient "Danger Den" waterblock that was originally configured for "Clip on" style installation, making it virtually useless to me After a bit of "Inspiration" last night, I took an old dead NF-3 250 motherboard and did a little "Mock Up" work to see if it was even possible, I used the original AMD 64 back plate with some tall motherboard "Stand Offs" screwed into it. I took the center bar from my Thermaltake Typhoon and it seemed to be a reasonable fit over the top of the waterblock to secure it in place. I am not going to spend any money on this project, I will adapt and fit whatever I have laying around. I cannot say exactly how at this point, but I have a few ideas that I would like to try for "Chilling" the water in some low tech way... this is pretty old low/midrange hardware, so it will need something "Extra" to be able to outperform my high end air cooling and make it worth the trouble. My camera needs the batteries charged, only 1of the 3 pics I was able to snap turned out decently, I will take some close ups tommorow, then maybe someone might be able to help identify exactly what I am working with. EDIT: Here are a few more shots Stock XP bracket The modified AMD 64 motherboard backing plate. Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 20-June-06 at 12:27 PM.. | ||

| Before shot, Zally CPNS7000ALCU Old 80MM fan shroud, thought a 120MM might work a bit better... My previous best on the 3100+ SemPorn and little Zally was 2.6GHZ...a 100MHZ gain is not bad for screwin around with old junk ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 24-June-06 at 12:56 PM.. | ||

| Glad too see you and that inspiration, but hey it is WC (I think) nice to see you break 2.7, my litle beast is too old, and not so AMD 64 like to get up there, though after i get this TEC up, i should break it, and maybe even better, but of course how about some HWbot benches for us, I'd like to see it par up against mine | ||

Woah i have competition, I need some dielectric grease really, i have tons of foam. Darn you competition. Only 19C or 19F? As well as i see a meanwell in that pic do I? I wish i had one, but i might have to step up my AC for a nice 55F ambeint Last edited by s1ugh34d; 24-June-06 at 10:42 PM..

I think I still have a switching PSU laying around somewhere. It isn't a Meanwell, but should do the trick. I just can't remember if it is here or back at my folks' house in Iowa.

Yes that is a meanwell on loan from Digi World, and it was 19F. I didnt have a fan on the HS, so it got realy hot fast, I was just testing for functionality..I am hoping real world testing does better than that, or it's gonna be a huge waste of time!

Yea I'm guessing thats a 80W I have a transformer running my peltier, when i was testing it, i let it run for about a half hour, and it had a block of ice over my waterblock, it wasnt in the loop, i just had a HSF on the hot side, and set this block on the cold side, it was attached, so i know it get below 30, I'll have to break out some temp tests, and see it then. Good job though glad to see you playing around with the budget sempr0n, there are pretty awesoem I'd say.

| Nice setup! Can't beat that price! I really dig the whole setup and how it isn't 'cookie cutter' style. Lots of people can talk about it, but you have hard stats to prove it! And now for a quick question . . . DOOOOOOOOOOD! This was actually my second time viewing this thread and something just hit me square between the eyes (and this time not from a nail gun) this time around. I don't know how I missed it. That white fan deal with the 4" (?) foil duct hanging down the side is EXACTLT what I am in desparate need of. I just knocked a hole in my wall to the intake of my A/C unit and have a 4" duct kinda hanging there at the moment. I have to finish staining and 'thaning my shelf and then I want to put a few PCs on it and hook the duct up. Sorry to take a dump on your thread but if you could tell me about that fan and where to find it, my folding rigs would be cooler and happy and they will love you forever (or not). Amazing what you can do to a Sempy with free stuff. I got well over 300MHZ OC on 2 different 2400+ rigs and only cost me a some sandpaper and a few dabs of shoe goo. LOVIN' IT! Overclock and be cool . . . | ||

| The fan in the pic will be the subject of an upcoming thread soon, I just rebuilt that rig with a different cooling system and CPU, so It will be a little bit yet before it goes back on for final performance testing with my X-2. | ||
