| Apex Techie Wannabe | Alright, First of all, Im new to PCApex, as well as Case Modding. I was inspired by MasterP's work on his "Referb" project, as well as the CPU Stingray. Sir Hoffman brought me to this site. So, to the Case. I wanted to do a Simpsons theme, which was Inspired by a friend, any Ideas? Im hoping to be able to cut The Simpsons Text out of the side of the Case (Or Front for that matter) Its a chassis built for a p3 1.1ghz, and can get super hot. I want to try to Maximize the cooling on it as well. Any Idea on where the start? I would greatly appreciate them! -- Hellfire *edit Fixed the Thread name, THANK YOU! | Welcome to PCApex!! I am going to watch this one closely I love The Simpsons!! I will try to come up with some ideas to help out! For sure you would want to think of the colors to paint it! They seem to always have a bunch of blue. Might want to look into some etching with a picture of something like this.... ![]() | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | That Picture looks like it would locate really well in the bottomish right hand corner of the front bezel! The paint job I was originally thinking of was the first image would be the clouds... But when I was thinking a little it, I want to also etch the simpsons house on the top. Something like that. This project, must glow... I want to use Lights, and windows... | |

| Here is a website with lots of black and white sketches of characters and things in The SImpsons... personally I like the one with homer eating the huge donut, it would make a great window etch. | ||

WELCOME TO PC APEX!!! Shucks... Inspired?? *blushes* ![]() That's a nice wee case you've got there ![]() The issues that I ran into doing a case like yours were mainly airflow/cooling related (as you mentioned - modern hardware gets HOT!) and those older cases were built for pentium 3's. I'd recommend maybe starting thinking about the dimensions of stuff that you'll be putting in the drive bays as well as the PSU - that'll give you the "no-go" areas to work around. Then comes the airflow - I'd either slap the largest fan you can fit behind the front bezel (with a better intake than is currently on it) or look at either a sidepanel-mounted intake to suck cool air in there. A slot blower or cross flow fan may be another option - you could mount it in a free 5.25" bay perhaps? You'll also need somewhere to get the hot air out - maybe a exhaust fan in the top (if one will fit) or modding it to sit externally - The PSU will get some out, but having something in the top will get rid of the hot air nicely ![]() Because of the layout, the PSU will block off a big portion of the side panel. Choosing a PSU that doesn't have a fan mounted in the top cover (which will pull air away from the CPU fan) might be an idea - otherwise, rotating the PSU 180 degrees and cutting an intake in the side panel may be an idea (a bit more work, but a good solution). I picked a PSU that had fans on the front and rear though in order to help exhaust hot air. As for the aesthetics of the case- the world's your oyster! Do up some sketches, browse the web for images that you like and go nuts! I'm definately for a sky-blue, white and yellow colour scheme though - it'd look sweet! Good luck and I look forward to seeing this come together

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Awesome idea!! Here is something you might consider to do. The first thing when i saw homer on that awesome window etching idea i said to myself,"Hmm... looks like he is about to eat a donut." And that got me thinking how in the world would you incorporate Homer's donut obsession and finally it hit me, you could make a some sort of design to put on your fan covers that would look like a donut or you could also have small donuts around your lights hope this helps. | Apex Techie Wannabe | Well first of all, thanks for the warm welcomes! and for the ideas! For cooling I plan to put fans in mucho different areas, (This is gonna be a loud PC :-D) For my First fan, I wanted to put it on the side panel, Down near the video card, considering, my card *6800GT* Puts out lots and lots of heat. So letting that escape would hopefully help it a bit. Next, I would like to put Either 2 80mm fans on the front bottom of the chassis, or one 92mm, Im thinking only the 92 mm will fit instead of 2 80mm. Coming up with a new idea, I want to raise the bottom of the computer up a bit, and put some new raised feet up (A lift kit for a computer?!?!?!) And put a fan down near the bottom to suck some nice air in. Im working on Ideas for the top of the computer, but I need to get some of my drives for that, as well as a power supply, which is currently in the shop with a computer I'm currently servicing. Next, I would like to completely eliminate having a floppy drive in this computer, and have a fan either under the hard drive cage, or in front of it, Im guessing under it, so it can be near my front fan(s) and they can pull that hot air out. For a design, Im still coming up with ideas for paint, but for the side panel, I wanted The Simpsons text, So probably tommorrow, Im going to get going on cutting out "The Simpsons" on the side panel. | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Ok, I finally drilled the 120mm hole on the bottom, I used a dremel to do it, considering I didnt have anything else at the moment, it turned out great, but I had a complication while doing it.... Im going to finish with the front 92mm fan tommorrow. | |

I, umm, Slipped? I was grinding the metal down a bit to make it more even and smooth, and I was using my right arm to Hold the case steady, and unfortunately It hit something and jerked and got me. I'm not worried about it, it hurt for like 2 minutes.
