Default Project: V1 L1

Well with time closer approaching to xlan in which i need something pimp to take and i just dont feel PC90 will be complete in time, i now require another case to take and pair up with Blood Red.
I was chatting to one of my mates last week and he was lookign at selling all of his gear as he is moving from towers to a shuttle, and had alot of no longer required hardware etc.
He just so happed to have a Lian Li V1000 which he had already started modding but over time had lost intrest or drive to mod.
Thats were i kindly stept in and said ill take the case off his hands, along iwth another Lian Li PC60 to which ill be using in PC90.

I do not have so much as a plan at the moment, but i am thinking ill try one of these " non painted " case's and see how things go. No doubt ill hate the dull / same looking case and will slap a few coats over it .

Well Here is a Quick run down with pictures of the case, and were i have semi ideas towards the mod.

The case in its naked hallf modded glory.
The inside got a few coats of black and clear by its previous owner, not to bad a job for someone who hasnt painted before, but sadly this will go none the less.
The hard drive cages were removed prior to me owning the case, which i may just keep smpty as i wish to use a Danger Den aqua drive.

The rear I/O plate was also painted black, and the fan cover is off another v1100 to which ws slaughterd by previous owner.
\
The top of the case was made home to a bip3

But this isnt goign to work anyway i look at it with my bip3, as it is just far to long front to rear with no way to rout tubing and fit the res into place

So im goign to have to go with a bip2 which is what i would rather anyhow.
Witht he res in place the rad will fit.

and as for the front 120mm hole im going to incorperate a viewing hole through to the res, like i did for the drive area on PC90.

Well thats all for now folks, tim eto go do some more planning, and whore PC90 a little ;D

That friend is a KEEPER!!!!
I don't know of any friend that would give up a LIAN and go to a Shuttle

Well more work on the case today

When i first got the case i could not put the side panels on, shortly after this i noticed that the rivets which had been replaced were way to big, and has not been flattened down to allow the sides on.

they stick out a mile

not to worry as im stripping all the internal black so i can replace these later
So after a little drilling out i got the guts of the case out and ready to do soem work on.

Now iwth the inside out i noticed that the rear panel was a little out of shap, and i decided to aquire another rear from another lian li i had lying around.

Now something i didnt notice at first was that the V1000 and PC6x rears were just a little different, so i had to do a little modding to get it up to par.

Seeing the v1000 has a rear fan cover and the pc60 does not, the rivet holes are a little different to allow the sliders to slide..

now i go that all cut and flush to notice that also the top ( bottom ) was also different and needed a slot tab to slot into the middle section of the case, i also got this all done and but did not take any pictures.
i then moved onto tackling the painted parts of the case.

The alloy was not prepared proply so dealing to the paint with gun wash was possible in some parts to get the paint of with ease.

and 10 minutes later i got the majority of the under side off, all ready to be polished...

Then it was time to move ont o the harder parts of the case which this time required the use of the paint stripper.
Just remember kids this stuff isnt to be used in side without adiquite ventilation as it is a killer ( seriously )

roughly 20 secounds later

Now i just need to apply a little bit more too all the parts to get them completly bare

Before i removed the insides i had a little test fit witht he Power supply, and noticed that even when fully secured to the case it dipped down at the frotn a little, and im just not happy with that.

Its only a matter of roughly 2mm, but when you know its there, its a pain in the behind ^_^

Now i had a dead cathode lying aroudn and thought " why not made a little support from it "...
So thats what i did.

Ill mirror tint it once it arrives, and will most probly add a white led inside it later

I decided to start the long job on the top fan grill last night, it was a bit of tossing up between buying an aquagrill or something along the lines of that. But then after thinking about it, its so much more fun making it yourself...

Now take one lian li side panel which has been made redundent...

Now i opted for masking up the top of the case and working out how i was goign to go about the grill on the case insteed of designing it and then not liking where it was going

After alot of head scratching it hought for just a narrow grill as i was thinking a full top cover, but that would just look stupid IMO. So i started planning

always have to use the right tools of the trade...

witht he main concept of the grill in my head, and layed out on the case i started work on the alloy.

after 15 minutes or so of filling and cutting i got the basic size and shape that i wanted

I want the grill to sit just inside the joins ontop of the case

also round corners will be the option for the grill

i then had to mark out were the grill's had to be which just involved flipping the ally over and tracing the al ready cut 120mm holes.

Now was the time to think of which way the vents were goign to be styled. After looking around the web and also in my work shop for a style that would look different i noticed the 120mm fan grill int eh bottom of the case, and started working on a little something....

i did want the grill to have a nice 8mm sidth but just coulnt pull it off without the right tools so i opted for the same style just a little thicker which will work better, in regards to airflow and noise.

i think its goign to work out not to bad

Well Hello again PCA, i thought it was about time for an update.
I have changed my mind in regards to not painting the case, i just couldnt fight the urge any longer.
So heres the pictures as that what u all want

now im not someone that uses front usb's as i find them a pain in the backside for desk clutter so i wont be needign them. Insteed i have decided to mount my fan controller in its place. As the case sits on my desk and not the floor i will find it less strain in changing fan speeds when i desire, ie. mean9ing i dont have to stretch up to change them, just like my external Optical drive which sits next too me also ( yes im lazy )

After some quick, somewhat wonky measuring...

we get the desired placement for it.

And from the rear
.

Now i haev a little thing for hand polished rads now, after the one that was done in Blood Red, so i decided to continue this onto this case.

i opted for paint stripper this time, alot faster then the old thinners :hehe:

And roughly 10 minutes later this is the result.......

And then a little wet and dry + Silvo we get the near desiderd results

now with that little bit of fun out of the way i went on to the mounting of the rad. With the rad in the desired position i couldnt mount the res, so this ment I have to now revamp the top panel.

So back off to the old masking tape it was, and more measurements.

The plan is too make a perspex top panel to mount the rad onto, which is easier to work with..

Ive gone for the norm grill type grills for it also.

and after about 30 minutes of cutting we get the resulting grills in place...

Well after i worked on the top panel for a little i felt like shifting over to somethign a little less file required, as i had been fillign for a good hour with the grills :grr:.
Now as i have an external DVD-RW i didnt want a big empty 5" area, so i opted for the stealthing of it using acrylic again, adn this is how this went.....

After some quick jig saw action i was left with a nice tight fitting side panel

And with soem more measuring and cutting i got the cover glued together ready for the barb placements of the Res.

With the holes all measured out ready to drill i procedded to do just that....

a nice perfect fit.

And this picture cracked me up, it reminded me of the robot off the tv series Lost In Space .... DANGER WILL ROBINSON ... ** DANGER ** ...

Now it wont be clear acrylic that you will eb seeing, ill show you guys yet again..... Later on
