Default My 1st Case mod

I've just brought a new computer and decided i might do a bit of case modded, always thought about it but now i have the money to do it.

That is it at the moment,i just brought a window kit for it which i've started to mark out and i will cut it out once dad gets home,He took the jigsaw with him.

Just testing to get a idea of what it might look like heh

Marked out the window,I know it cuts though them vents,But if i paint it i will fill up the holes, and put in a fan in the side to make sure we have abit of air still comming in

I just brought some parts and heres the list of parts i got

Fan cover
UV Fan with LEDS
UV 60-80mm cpu fan adapter
30cm Blue Neon Tube
$50 worth of stuff thats with shipping, which is like $35US

Welcome to pcApexnick_boy69 , looks like you are starting out on the right foot you could add some lighting since you are putting a window in your case, also do a little wire management that always help keep your computer look nice and tidy and clean, what i mean by that is you could sleeve all your wiring with zip ties to keep your wires all tight and neat and also helps on airflow to keep your components cooler, a little painting would help like changing the color of the case, making maybe a fan hole on top or window side and also the front of your case with some really nice fan grills for protection and looks. There is so many idea's you could do so i thought i would just mention a few to you.

Yes,i have some lighting i have got a neon tube witch i will run along the back spine of the computer, insted of along the top,I have some ally reflective tape that is on the front side which will face the neon tube hopefully reflecting a bit back,I also have the lights in the UV fan which is going on the cpu,Not just because it has lights but because its bigger and so i get more air to the cpu. The wire managment is comming next,Think of some nice chrome sleeving which should look nice with the blue, and refelct a bit more light though the case,Also i was thinking of hiding a mirror in the bottom of the hd rack which it will be hidden, but will also help reflect a bit of light back

First of all, WELCOME to PCApex! I love it when somebody picks up a saw for the first time and hacks up a perfectly good computer...

Just a reminder, most mods are a gradual thing. Very few people care to sit down and do the whole thing in one sitting... I know I don't. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it long-term as well. The window looks awesome! The first thing you'll notice when you put it in is that now you can see the hideous PSU sticker proclaiming wattage ratings and so forth I'm sure you'll come up with something interesting for that.

Aah, the joys of modding. Thrasher2 will be along shortly to recruit you for F@H, I'd highly recommend it. Nothing says "I'm cool" like a pimped-out machine folding proteins to cure cancer.

Lol,Not the 1st time with a saw i did 5 and a half years of woodwork and school which inclued a bit of metal work so im not stupid, and i when i marked out the window i made it so the top of the window is pretty much level with the bottom of the psu so you shouldnt be able to see it much if you look at it side on.Yes iam remembering to do it bit by bit,Im doing it as i have little bits of spare cash in my bank so its not gonna happen all at once

That is good you are definatly on your way to good start, i have see the part you are talking about where you would cut a miror to fit in the bottom of your case that should really make it stand out.

Yea well thats what i was hoping for, finding ways to light up the whole box easy without lots of lights,i want to keep this pretty simple, and not turn it into a ufo with alot of different colours flashing and what not

If you don't already know about this little thing called Folding@Home here is some info about it.

OUR GOAL
Understanding how proteins self-assemble ("protein folding") is a holy grail of modern molecular biophysics. What makes it such a great challenge is its complexity, which renders simulations of folding extremely computationally demanding, and difficult to understand. The Stanford group has developed a new way to simulate protein folding. However, this method is extremely computationally demanding and they need our help.
For more info about it stop by F@H's home page here.

With that in mind you should read up on our team Team PCApex linkage. It is a great way to help humanity and PCApec alike.

If you are the competitive type you might want to join up in one of PCApex's sub teams for more info on them check these links.

I actually think the window is fine where it is once you hide some wires. Most hard drives and drive cages are boring to look at anyway.
Is it because of the picture or is the molding a bit off-center in a few spots?

yea, just need to use a bit of glue tack in around the bends, because its pretty stiff plastic,Heh,Now i think ill have to tidy up the wires, but a few of them will be tidy'd once i have my new fan and neon in,so the molex plugs wont be just sitting there they will to plugged in,well the neon plug will be hidden,I've just gotta find the right sort of sleeving for the right price,$20 for a lenth of chrome sleeving is pretty stupid to me,Must be able to get it cheaper than that

Hey dude!

Welcome aboard and nice project so far

Instead of chrome sleeving why not nip down your local hardware store and pick up a chrom shower hose?? Probably about 1/4 the price and ive seen them used in a few cases before. Gotta make sure not to short anything out but as a cheap alternative it can look pretty damn

Just a thought.

Keep up the good work!

Still need to have a spilt loom so you can slide the wires into it,Not gonna be able to slide it over the molex plugs heh

Remove molex... slide wire through hose... re-attach molex... admire handy work.

Bit more effort but definatly do-able. Your could even replace boring molex plugs with something a bit more bling...

Thats a pretty good idea mark, but remember its my 1st not looking to make it perfect but that is a good idea for future mods,Always wanted to do case modding,Just installed a CPU/Case Temp program so i can keep an eye on it all,and also to see if the new fan i put on the cpu makes it runs cooler,Or not lol

I cant stop looking though that window and thinking of more ideas for it,I was thinking of replacing the IDE cables do some UV,or ones with some lighting cable stuff wrapped around them

Damn right bro

WELCOME TO PCA!
I used to have one of those iCute cases (before I got into modding) They've got potential for sure
Great to see you supporting modster PC too - I buy as much as I can from therm,
Their prices are good and they have outstanding service (better than "some" of the other etailers out there)

Anyway - glad you've taken the plunge and are going for it - looks good so far (liking the window placement too - keeps the drive cages hidden)
