| Yeah yeah it's been a while since I posted anything here, but it's about damn time I modded something. So I hooked up with Miststlkr and we went to Marketpro in Orlando. I was going to go get a server case for my next mod and saw some cool cases, but they were rather expensive, and most were pre-modded with windows, I did not want that, so I went with a generic server case with casters. It looks to be a rip off of a Codegen server case, it has a Codegen PSU in it. Jesus this thing is a monster!!! So much room, and that's good, I'll need all of it. The theme is Ford Probes, and it will work quite well with our Florida Probe Owners Club LAN parties we do. The best thing about this case is now I have a totaly clean slate and didn't have to settle for something I found, I got to choose what I WANT and not what I can settle for. Choppers mod is cancelled, for now. too many complications so I said screw it. This is our victim. I'm going retro on this, and there is a legitimate reason why. At our FLAPOC LAN's, we usually play a lot of Unreal tournament. Not 2k4, but the ORIGINAL UT, Game of the Year Edition. Since I'm using a theme about a car almost 15 years old, and the games we usually play are older as well, why the hell not go old skool with the hardware as well? Specs for now are: Abit KT7A 512mb SDRAM Athlon 950 @ 1200mhz being cooled by a ThermalTake Volcano 6 Cu+ 3dfx Voodoo 5500 64mb AGP with slight modification ![]() ISA Sound Blaster 16 big stack of removable HDD racks. Going for the server look. The reason for the Abit motherboard and not my Gigabyte with all the built-in stuff is the Gigabyte, though more asthetically pleasing with it's blue PCB, contrasting colors and various heatsink modifications, lacks all the overclocking tools the Abit has. The Abit has multiplier, VCore adjustment, FSB, I/O voltage, memory speed, just about everything you could ask for in a 2001-era overclocking motherboard. Best part is the Abit was a FREEEEEEEEEEBIIEEEE /american chopper That's all I have for now. I have to locate me a network card, I think I have one in storage. All the hardware is 2000 - 2001 era stuff, everything, heatsinks and all. I am checking the date codes on everything to make sure of this, and so far they range from 2100 (2000 week 21) on the 3dfx card, to 0138 (2001 week 38) on the motherboard. Harddrives are the exception, I'm going new on the HDD's, since there will be 6 - 8 of them and I will be having all my pictures from our meets backed up on them I don't want to trust an older HDD with some mileage on it with my data. However the sizes of the HDD's are from the same era, ranging from 60 to 100gb, so that kind of counts. The hardware will be getting some old skool modifications as well. If I am very careful I might even be able to install the RAID setup on the motherboard, I have a spare Abit with the same Promise RAID controller on it, and I have all of the tooling necessary for such a modification. | ||

| I forgot to mention the 3dfx card was nearly destroyed, I was removing a heatsink when I slipepd and the heatsink took off about 10 resistors and capacitors and the card would post with lines across the screen and not do 3D. It was hit under the second core and upon running it the 1st core would heat up but the 2nd one would not. Well I replaced all the caps and resistors and it posts normally now, and I think both cores are functional again, I got some heat from the 2nd core, not as much but that's because the epoxy used on the heatsinks is thinner on that core = better heat transfer. | ||

| Well sh*t I just somehow managed to kill my 3dfx Voodoo 5500. I think. Ok maybe I didn't, and now the Abit has decided to work. So long as it stays like this all is well. So back in goes the Abit, and the Voodoo 5500. I think I would shoot myself if this card died after all the work I put in it.... Or I'd just get a better one on eBay with Hyundai TC-6 on it. | Well my V5 finally bit the dust. In Windows setup it displayed lines on the screen, and when trying to display in 32bit mode it lagged so bad I had to restart and install a different card. She lived a great life, and spent many countless hours doing what she did best, raping my opponents in Halflife, Doom, Unreal Tournament G.O.T.Y. Edition, Soldier of Fortune, Viper Racing, the list goes on..... Her PCI twin still lives on and will be going under the knife soon for some repairs as well. I think I'll just have to cut my losses and get another one, at least it wasn't my 9700 Pro. RIP ![]() | ||

| Have you ever seen a first-gen Probe? Besides, aerodynamics have nothing to do with it. BA did a Viper case and everyone here knows what a Viper looks like. Here's a neat little piece of graphics card history I snatched up today. I have a 14-point rep hit for the first person here who can correctly identify it. | ||

| Geez now I know why I gave up performance computing. All the god damn headaches associated with getting the f$#^#^ing thing to work. ![]() i think the 550w psu is defective. windows installations are buggy, files aren't coping off discs 5 minutes old, nothing is adding up and I have spent the last 6 hours heating my room up to maybe 85*F - 90*F from this damn thing running trying to get it to work. it worked fine until I installed that ^^^ card. wtf. no one has guessed it yet. | ||

| Well, I'm surprised no one has figured out what it is, it is infact nothing even close to any of these cards listed, it is an ST Kyro II 3D 64mb. Fully functional, and is roughly on par with a Geforce 2 GTS DDR. Today the front panel gets paint and I start on the window. | ||
