Default Project Crossfire

Hey all...I know the last project found a little stall...Due to the parts that all died at once...LOL...
It will be on track very soon...But I also have this project starting as well...
First we start with the case....

Thats right....Another lian li...this time a V1000 as I was pretty fond of the inverted BTX style for heat dissipation...
The case will be laser cut this weekend with a flame design and some mesh panels installed to improve airflow by the boys over at Voyeurmods.com. A small handfull of fans installed to eat the heat so to speak...
See the pic below of the final flame design.
More details on the case and pics coming very soon...
The harware has been ordered...
For the motherboard I went with the Gigabyte GA-G1975X.

This board is the new Intel 975X Chipset. It is capable of SLI with both Nvidia and Ati...
It's also very fast for the new Intel chips...
Since everyone knows Intel is coming on strong again with the new Pressler series chips...
I decided to go against the grain and get a 930D Pressler chip which is Dual Core at 3 ghz that can hit 4.2 thru 4.5 on good cooling.

For the video cards....and yes I said CARDS in plural (MUHAHAHAHAHA), I went against the normal right now again...Since ATI recently released the x1900 series of cards that is said to outrun the 7800 series...I decided to try crossfire on a chipset that isnt plagued like the ATI version made for AMD.
I picked up an ATI x1900xt

As well as an ATI x1900 Crossfire Edition Card.

For the memory I ordered some OCZ Gold Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 667 (PC2 5400).

For the PSU I ordered a Fortron FX700-GLN 700W SLI PSU....

This PSU was rated really well at 700 watts...It seems to be gaining popularity.
I can't wait to test it out...
Anyway the hardware should be here by the 22nd on my bday w00t...
As soon as it arrives I will be updating this log with more ideas...
Coming soon...
Dragon Modz Dragon Ware and some Red Rivets.....
as well as a new natural keyboard from microsoft.....
PARDON ME WHILE I SPAM THE FORUMS.....LOL..IT HAS TO BE SAID.
A big special THANK YOU to Brian over @ Voyeurmods.com for all his hard work in helping me with this project. If it were not for him and his AWESOME crew over there...This project would not have been half of what it has become. Everything from the proposed cutting to the GREAT deal I got on the package was handled profesionally and with great care. You couldn't ask for a better group of MODDERS that help you fulfill your dreams with custom cutting and a large plethora of products to help you build ANYTHING you can think up...If you got a dream they can make it happen.

So I guess that new Harley will have to wait a while, huh? That is one of the most primo lists of equipment I've seen in a while.

I dunno but i think if it aint water cooled go with zalman, but i mean there is no other none
water cooling solution is there, no offense on the gigabte but here

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Z...CNPS-9500LED/5

the zalman destroys it in cooling

Have you read any of our heatsink reviews lately?

Yea I have, every one of them, a MOSFET cooler, silent solution, doesnÂ’t compare with Intel cooling, that Zalman is amazing IÂ’ve seen it, any 4.5 GHz Intel being cooled with a heat pipe, over water cooling is amazing id like to see it in this project, but i mean if you favor the gigabyte its your opinion, IÂ’m just suggesting.

Being a veteran has its benefits.....Call it MONTGOMERY GI BILL!!!!
Going to school fulltime pays enough if I save up a few months...To make the purchase
But yeah...you sorta guessed it...This spring was supposed to be the motorcycle...Looks like I wait another year....LOL
Going to be two before I get the Truck...LOL
Actually the project will be water cooled....If you notice the top panel above...That half circle is for the Reservoir thats going there.....
Running a TDX to the CPU only.....
The rest is aircooled....
Hence why the mesh and a few extra 120mm fans over the video cards....
Thrasher.....That gigabyte is pretty sweet...But I really fell fond of the big typhoon as well as those Noctua's that BA reviewed...He made all those HSF sound pretty promising...

A preview pic of the hardware....

There you go, I was talking the Noctua's and not the Zalman's. Guess he hadn't read all of them.

Some people are always misinformed....LOL.....
Those hsf's were sweet...and a total shock to me...
I thought the big typhoon was the best out there..Untill I read that review...
I was really hoping to get some oppinions on what you all thought of the prosed laser cutting in the panels to that v1000b (SEE PIC BELOW)......
I love the cut...but are the flames easy for you to follow?

Oh hell yeah. I can see them. That V1000 is one of those cases you just get one shot at, you going to cut it yourself or get it laser/water cut?

It's being laser cut.....
Theres way to much detail there for me to do that alone...I am looking for perfection on that cut...And that red outline...is actually removed material.....lol....way to much cutting on a 200 dollar case to be risking it for my blood....
LOL

I also found a local powder coater who is willing to coat the chassis for me in red....30 bucks...with a minumum 50 dollar order....Guess I need to coat my other project too...LOL.

Thank you for the well wishes....it was not easy to spend this kind of cabbage in my family thats for sure....I had to buy the better half a dishwasher just to consider it first....and that meant saving MONTHS AND MONTHS of student benefits from my GI BILL...This project actually started in the planning stages way back in sept...Thats how long it took to save and get to the point I am now...

I remember back in november when everyone was ordering the OPTY's I was sooooo ready to jump on that deal....But I stuck it out waiting to see if the Intel / ATI route would actually materialize anytime soon....
After Necros article on the upcoming CONROE...I was hooked....

Looks pretty sweet, but I do see one down side with that motherboard.

You're going to be hurting if you need more than 4 USB ports. I realize that there are PCI brackets with USB ports on them to suppliment the board, but I think in the system you have planned, empty PCI case slots will be a scarce commodity.

For all you fans of the Microsoft Natural Series of Keyboards....(I know I couldn't live without mine) If you hadn't noticed, Microsoft recently released the first upgrade to the popular series. This one is called the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and it takes comfort to an entirely new level... Elevating from the forward point and using padded leather as well as an entirely new look and style of button....This was just to great to pass up....
If your into the Natural....Do yourself a favor and get one of these soon...They are running about 55-60 bucks with a 10 dollar mail in rebate right now....You can find them online as well as your local office depot or office max...I got mine at office depot...

You gotta see this thing in person to really appreciate it...

That Lian-Li is actually an inverted ATX case design not inverted BTX. I actually do want to get it my self. Damn I can't believe that Intel released their new mobo that can handle SLI and Crossfirealready. If you one day feel lke ditching Crossfire, you can sell them ATI cards and get nVidia cards and do SLI . God I love all that hardware and plus I read that the ATI 1900XTX is the fastest GPU today. I don't know, but I don't like the Typhoon that much. I read BA's review and he mentioned that he had to get shorter RAM just because the Typhoon was so huge. I know that the performance justifies the size, but I would much rather stick to the Zalman 9500 only because of its excellent performance and slightly shorter size. I read a review of that Microsoft keyboard in a magazine of either PC World or PC Magazine ( I always forget). Yeah the reviewer praised the keyboard so you can't go wrong there. Can't wait to see the project all done.
