digi arctic cooling has a new cooler out that drops that db to something alot more ear freindly for those sweet cards, its not the cheapest, but it drops the temps, as well and isnt too hard on the wallet.

the accelero x2,

Since I planned to watercool...I have failed to order a proper COOLER for the 775 rig
I wanted a NOCTUA based on BA's review...but good luck finding one of those....
ironically though....the intel stock one does quite well....never saw the fan kick on....and it kept it around 30C.....

65nm process is a lot cooler then the PRESSHOT.....
LOL

thats were i bought mine for my 478 rig im building.
came out to about 80.00 shipped to my door, from quietpc... took about 2 weeks to get it. but 4 real tho, that noctua is a badmofo...

ive been really impressed w/ the presler procs, and in a couple mos(when prices drop)... i might start a xe955 build w/ water cooling.

That Noctua is one bad MOFO....

Thinks 80 bucks....hrmmm......considering that option.....I will be watercooling still...but it would be nice to have that around for out of the box benching...

i was just reading this over @ eocf...

I would go with the Asus P5WD2 Premium(955x). There have been a bunch of problems with the 975x version(probably linked to the marvell chipset that was added) and it doesn't look like you are planning to use any of the additional features that the 975x was designed to support, so why pay extra for them. The 975x chipset removes one of your PATA ports, adds an additional PCIe 16x slot(which you won't be using since you won't be running crossfire) and it adds a secondary RAID controller(Marvell) which appears to be creating a bunch of problems on the board. There is just no benefit in running the 975x chipset here, you will gain nothing and it has known issues with the design.

For an intel chip the P5WD2 series are pretty much the best boards available though the gigabyte also do pretty well. For gaming I would definately recommend looking into picking up more RAM as 2gb's has more or less become the standard for a high end gaming machine. The corsair memory is great memory and I have absolutely no problems with them but would suggest 2gb's worth of memory. If money is an issue for picking up the 2gb's then you might want to consider the DDRII 667mhz PQI Turbo series(about $150 for 2gb's). The PQI has performed very well, and can't be beat for the price.

have you heard of any problems linked to the raid controller? this is new to me? or heard of any problems for that matter?

Just a little update to let you all know whats been going on....

I had been struggling with power issues in getting this rig up and going.

It seems the 4 12v rail FORTRON psu at 700watts was still not enough to run the dual card setup on this board....
Those twin X1900's really eat the power.....

So I had to make a trip to columbus ohio to pick up a new OCZ 520 modstream with a single rail 12v.
Plugged it in last night and for the first time...windows isnt shutting down....
More tweaks and info later...
Project back on track....
