All 975X motherboards switch to 8x when using crossfire...It's a limitation of the Northbridge controller... The speed difference of the 8x to 16x is hardly noticeable...

| Well newer motherboards are having "true dual x16 slots". The AsusA8N32-Deluxe has true dual x16 slots running, and the total bandwith is x32 in SLI. I have read that the difference isn't great now, but in the future as games will take advantage of "true dual x16 slots" as they get more complexed. | ||

Yes but thats an AMD solution...LOL ATI has a new chipset coming out that is supposed to allow for dual 16x slots...By the time they get th bugs out of that....Then maybe we may need the extra 2000 in bandwidth.... By then It will be conroe time and I am sure the Intel solution will have accomplished the same....

| I think I might be trading my current Crossfire board for this Crossfire............The A8R32-MVP Deluxe, Dual PCIe x 16 Graphics.............. http://www.asus.com.tw/products4.asp...42&modelmenu=1 http://www.vrforums.com/showthread.php?p=1513400 | ||

| Looks like Asus has one for the 975x chipset and Crossfire ready. http://www.asus.com.tw/products.aspx...81&modelmenu=1 http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2671 | ||

Thats a great option for an AMD setup....LOL However I am not sure I can stick my 930D in that board...lol
The P5WD2-E you linked too is a 975X board which is like all 975X boards...Limited to shared PCIX that cuts down to 8x when running dual cards.... cost is $269 Also that premium board only uses 4 phase power....Versus the 8 phase found on the workstation model that costs an extra 40 bucks...P5WDG2-WS @ $319 Now you are probably starting to see why I went with the Gigabyte GA-G1975X model.....8 phase power and 90 dollars less @ $229...Not to mention OC numbers that are on par with the workstation model Asus P5WDG2 To sum it up...You can save 90 bucks and get 8 phase power and the same OC ability for 90 dollars less if you can let go of a few PCI slots due to board layout.... Trust me I did my homework here....LOL

All the 975X boards can do this bro...However the Gigabyte is the only one that comes OFFICIALLY with an SLI connector.... The others will require you to buy one... And they are still working on official bios releases to get the 7800 series to work in this board... Nvidia will not OFFICIALLY support it and is being very hesitant to help... They tend to get a little gready and want their cards running in NVIDIA chipsets only...LOL

Please don't take it the wrong way, but that was a pretty stupid statement.

| do you know ift the 975x will support the conroe? i would like to have a 930 presler now, and know that id be able to upgrade to the conroe... problem is i think the i975x boards right now only support a single joined bus to communicate w/ teh northbridge, but conroe has 2 independant busses to communicate with the northbridge. i was reading somewhere that there will be a revision "b" i975x that will support conroe... but that still leaves out the conroe XE running @1333fsb when the current 975x mobos support 1066fsb... can anyone confirm any of this? or am i wrong? | ||

| I am most definitely not in the Intel Info Loop....I am sure that’s kept secret for the select few.... Early reports have said that Conroe will require a newer version of the 975X due to hardware limitations on current gen 975 boards.... From what I hear it’s an fsb limitation and a VRM (Voltage Regulator) issue....Some industry insiders are saying that the chipset itself isn't flawed but the Main boards themselves are.... So look for ver 2.0 on many 975X boards when the Conroe launches in Q2.... I am hoping the 8 phase power regulation on my gigabyte will just need a bios update...but I am dreaming I am sure.... If it requires a new board I'll be selling this one off to get the newer version...LOL Another note...If the chipset is going to stay as is...There still will not be dual 16x support for Conroe boards either I guess.....So I may stand corrected on my previous statement... The only ones that really know where this is going are the "INSIDERS" I keep referring too... Hope that helps some... Digi | ||

That is SO COOL!!!! It's going to look SUPER slick I must find out a bit more about CNC and what they require in order to get work done - I've always liked how CNC work turns out Can't wait to see how this all goes ![]()
