If you go with wheels, why does it have to stand up? It could lay on the back for transport or even permanently if you used an optical drive with CD clips. That opens up a whole new bunch of options for flares and scoops. Then the door could open hinged from the top so when it's layed back it opens like a car door. Just rambling here.

I read most of this thread, ok I skimmed it. And I have a question that is probably answered in here somewhere, but what is the case going to be used for when it is done?

as far as i know its going streight to pcApex (Gary) as a big thank you, and to make a memorial to the roots of pcApex. If thats not it then i must have missed that day of class

I don't rember that it was officialy decided. The 2 ideas on the table were
1) Present it to GK / Garry. OR
2) Auction it off here.

I'm OK either way but I just don't rember a decision being made.

We could make its very own custom dolly. Basically a half shell carpeted skid with castors... the case would slip into it and off you go!

Can't remeber if it was mentioned in here or the other thread... but the idea of two computers in one is simply amazing!

Think about it... A kick-ass gaming machine with its very own severer built into it...

Wouldnt be surprised if that case could fit two Mobos (One full ATX & one mini ITX for example) easily... The smaller mobo would probable fit in the top half of the case... up by the PSU?? would possibly raise some cooling issues but its not like this project is lacking in talent. I dont know how well something like that would hold up to server use... but just throwing the suggestion in there :-)

As far as i know it would be something pretty unique as well.


Anyways... whoever first suggested the idae gets my vote :-)

i like that idea alot, that way it can be put on a shelf to without seeing any wheels cuz there on the dolly : )

Yeah, that's the kind of excitement we were hoping to see Mark.

Doing a dual system does pose the problem of more than doubling the hardware budget, but we have been pursuing the idea in the hope that the pure PIMPitude will draw the support that we need. The team is certainly trying to balance between practical concerns about whether or not we come up with ideas that are just too costly/difficult/problematic to accomplish, but other than the additional costs, this one just kicks so much booty that we would really like to do it. being the poor student i am i cant offer much but ill stick in what i can when i can... (little and often as they say?? lol)

I dont know what your ideas about the '2nd' system were but i dont really see the point in two SLi gaming rigs for example... What would make more sense (to me) would be to have one kick ass high end gaming / graphical / editing rig combined with a setup more aimed at being a server. That way its not just 'two computers in one case' its a whole network solution. Get some wireless router action going on (those fin antenna looked awsome!) and it becomes something more... much more! Seems to me that would be much more worth while.

OH! brain wave.... if you have two distinctly different PC setups in the one case... why not have the two sides looking distinctly different? One side PimpRig, one side PcApex or something like that? Or seeing as there are two themes that come to my mind when i think of this site... One is the purple and gold PIMPness... the other is the tribal style designs... one side of the case for one side of PimpRig, one side of the case for the other?

First off: Thanks for the help Mark!

Second: Good practical suggestions on the dual systems. I particularly like the idea about the PimpRig/PCApex dual themes, showing the flow of one to another, yet still part of the overall mod. That'd be a cool visual example of what the site is now.

As I said in the team thread, we are wanting to KVM the two systems, and having them networked is a must as well. WiFi, bluetooth and IR would be nice additions, and aren't too tough to add. I like the idea of remoted fin antennas myself.

I have a 2 port USB KVM switch with audio that I can donate for the project. If you want it, it's yours, just PM me with the shipping address.

was good to see some ideas ticking over in the other thread!

Keep up the awsome work on this project guys, just know you are all going to do this site (as it is and as it was) proud!

The PRT Worklog discussion is now focusing on incorporating carbon fiber. Less weight = mobility for GK. It also looks sexy as hell. My experience lies only with cutting rigid pre-formed sheets. We're gonna pool our experiences and see what we can learn from one another from working with carbon fiber.

We need to now hear your suggestions for the system components.

GK likes RAID5 in his systems.

The agreed plan is to place utilize 2, ATX MBs (1U and Gaming MB) side by side on a removable MB tray

Keep in mind that we've only raised $402.41 so far.

I was thinking about the dual rad plans and came up with this configuration. Zero blockage of fin areas, but it might not fit in the case. Lower profile fans might help, or trimming half the fan housings away where they contact rads.
