Default Project: K E I S A R I, 04 December 05

Uuuupdate time!

First of all I gotta say thay my little quiz apparently was too easy. You guys are really into the He-Manage (I thought I was the only one, but guess not)

Well the correct answer is (drum roll please)

"Normally, he is the cowardly Cringer, but when Prince Adam transforms into He-Man, Cringer becomes the mighty Battle Cat."

Congrats to all of you that got it right. Sorry there are no prizes

Anywho how can you help yourself not loving the furry underwear? (dozing of imagining wearing furry He-Man underwear, ahhh)

Allrighty then! Time for the real update

First I wanna show you my new toyz. Can't live without a Dremel and a soldering iron (not if you wanna mod at least)

Faceplates taped (with masking tape) and the templates applied (with gluestick). Ready for drilling

Pilot holes drilled. Remember kids. Always drill pilotholes before drilling the real holes. Makes it much easier to correct stuff and makes sure that the big drill doesn't slip.

The drilling bench

Big holes drilled

Some of the faceplates drilled and screwed. Ready to be mounted

Table de la soldering (it's hard to tell but the book in the left corner is what I'm reading for school right now. Basics of Compiler Design )

The Bulgin button I'm going to install (it's obviously red since my colorscheme is metal, black and red)

More Bulgin and the resistor thats going to be soldered to it (don't wanna burn it since those are expensive suckers)

Button faceplate ready and edges sanded (don't wanna cut myself).

Testfitting the Bulgin

I've also bought a bunch of High-Bright LED's (3000 mCd), holders, wires and some other stuff.

LED's assembled

THE HORROR! I just testfitted my faceplates and came to realize that Lian Li (those m*****f******!) didn't stick to standard measurements. This means that there are two fairly big gaps between my DualStars (if you know what I mean ) The gaps are about 1 cm each. NOOOOO!!

So I guess I have to figure out a way to make some kind of filler for those gaps ( perhaps I should cut a faceplate into 1 cm strips and stick them in there?) Well I'll have to think about that.

This is aprox. how it's going to look from the front when it's done though (LED's look off, but that's just because they haven't been screwed down yet and the bare faceplates are where the dvd drives are going to be)

Until next time.

Thx for reading

Thanks for the update.

Some solid progress. Sorry to hear about the lian li error. I'd go with a 1cm faceplate filler. A pain in the arse, but I'm sure you can make it look as if it was supposed to be there in the first place.

Have a great weekend!!

Nice precise work there -keisari...at least the parts you put together. Unfortunate about the spacing discrepancy, but I would take the effort to see of those Dualstars could be moved together, and a single 2cm filler would take care of the rest. Thin filler strips just wouldn't fit the clean look in my eyes.

Thx. Already made the 2 x 1cm fillers and it doesn't really seem right so I think you might be on track with something there. I'm going to try that out tomorrow and we'll see how it turns out.

Hi all!

Sorry for the lack of updates but I've had to deal with a lot of things lately.

Anywho

I have aquired a sponsorship by www.vcore.dk which I'm very happy about. It's a great store with some great stuff and very good customer service so check it out.

Well onto the modding.

Some sweet things from www.vcore.dk

I finished the button faceplate and it turned out pretty good I think

Testfitting the faceplate

The Laing DDC-Pro pump

Putting PTFE teflon tape on all the fittings to make sure that nothing leaks

Fittings mounted on pump

To make the pump fit in the 3.5' bay we need to get rid of the middle plate like this

When the pump is installed it's going to look like this

I have yet to finish the plate that goes in front of the pump

The manifolds

IMHO the blue color on the manifolds look horrid and doesn't go with the color scheme at all so they got to be sanded and painted

The spray box

Sanded and ready for paint

To be continued

Thx for reading

ditto. I've been watching this since 11/19/05 when it started. Great stuff.

I love the "Chaos Black" spray paint in the last update post.

Thx guys!

Well here's your much needed fix (aka update). Albeit small, an update none the less

Allrighty then!

The manifolds painted (Chaos black, 4 layers)

The fittings didn't really mount very easily so after fighting with them I was forced to do some repainting

The finished manifolds

I went to the autoshop and got some nice stuff. Perforated front grill aluminium mesh and some carbon fiber vinyl

Cutting out a piece of the mesh

In lack of proper filler I stuffed the unneeded holes with two part epoxy and let it dry overnight

Cutting out a piece of the vinyl for application onto the mesh

After gluing the vinyl onto the mesh and cutting out the 7 holes for the lights (7 as in K E I S A R I)

How the mesh is going to look when mounted (Red light is going to shine through the pump and hopefully it will look super tasty )

Well that's it for this small update but stay tuned for more

you should get some clear projector paper and print out K E I S A R I on it, and then put each letter in a hole, and they will be back lit by the red pump light. It would look crazy sweet, I can't wait to see the other bay covers. keep it up man

Arrggghhh my friends it's time for another update

First of all I had to go some extra carbon reinforced cutting discs for my dremel because I broke all the regular ones I had. At the same time I also picked up some different kinds of sandpaper

I started working on the case itself. First cut measured out

It's kinda hard to see the lines but here is a closeup of the markup

Pilotholes drilled in each corner

First cut (sweating by the thought of ruining a very expensive case)

Almost finished cutting the whole thing

Radiator hole cut

I also ripped the Fass-O-Matic out of my old case (it's still kinda wet because I just emptied it)

Without the faceplate

Fittings, thermometer and LED holder mounted

Testfitting the Fass-O-Matic before deciding where the hole in the case should be

As you can see in the picture above it's a very tight fit so I had to change the fittings on the pump to make it possible for the two to connect

Time for the car grill mesh to be mauled properly. Cutting out a suiting piece

I forgot to take some pictures of the bending process But it simply involves using a vice or a woodbench and the slowly bending it with your hands into the desired shape (after clamping it down obviously). To finish it off and get some straight angles use a rubber hammer or a regular hammer and a piece of wood in between.

The almost finished product (still needs some fine tuning). As you can see the grill sticks out further than the rad but that's because the fans aren't mounted yet. Just wait it's going to look fiiiine!

I was kinda worried how this would look compared to a store bought fan grill but I must say that I'm more than pleased with the looks of it now and have no regrets whatsoever

Front view (sorry for the blur but my camera ran out of power)

Before I end this update I just wanted to show that I've finished soldering the LED's for the front power button/status LED faceplate. They just need to be sleeved and then they're done

Until nxt time thx for reading.
Over and out captain!

Update time from Dr. Slow

Hi everybody! I know it has been a while since I've update and I'm sorry for that. I've been off snowboarding and I've gotten a new job at IMTLabs

(www.spleak.com) so I've had a lot of stuff to do, hence the lack of updates.

Well I'm going to make that up to you now.

On to the update

Markup for the reservoir cut

Cutting the hole with my trusty Dremel
(Patience my young padowan, patience)

Hole cut

Top view after filing the hole

Closeup of the reservoir cut

Top view with screws testmounted

I've also had to drill a hole in the back of the case to be able to access the radiator bleed screw

ok, that's it. Update again in a short while

thx for reading
