Howdy fellow pimps. As some of you know I live about 5 miles away from New Orleans and am smack in the middle of Katrina's decestation. All of us in my neighborhhod have been coming together and helping get each others homes back into shape. It has actually been a heartwarming exerience these last few weeks.

During all of this, I found out the 13 year old down the street who had just gotten a new (handme down from his uncle) computer. Long story short, it was fried by a massive power surge during the storm. His folks do have insurance but with them being out of work for a few weeks due to the storm and the amount of stuff they must buy, looks like his rig is going to become part of the "deductable". It sucks, but ya can't fault his folks. They are gonna get through this all just fine, but just barely.

So I thought it would be a cool idea have some sort of community project. I am sure that between a few of us pimps we could throw together a half decent rig that would look pretty damn cool for a kid that has only briefly owned a compaq.

Like I said, he is 13 so he is obviously into video games, but he doesn't need a bad ass rig. Really anything we can throw together he would love.

So, I was thinking of something along the lines of this. I will buy a case (whoever wants to help out with the project could help suggest the case) and ship it to someone for some minor mods. Maybe a decent paint job. I am not aiming for case of the year or anything, just something semi "pimpin". We could even give it a pimprig theme.

That leads us to parts. I will buy the case and pay for ALL shipping required (regardless of how many times we have to ship it)

Mobo
Ram
Vid Card
Socket A HSF (Doesn't need to be anything fancy, he isn't into OC'n YET)
HDD (I have a 10 gigger somewhere, but was hoping someone had something a tad better)

I am hoping that someone here is going to school and can get a legit copy of Windows XP on the cheap and I also plan on buying him a cheap game controller (he is into sports games)

My cash is stretched pretty thin right now untill the darn adjuster gets out here and I get my insurance check (3-4 months. damn vampires) but if I have to buy anything else I will try to make it happen.

I would truly appreciate any help you pimps could offer, or even ideas.

I was able to snag em a UPS/surge protector from the office. Also got a 17" flat screen CRT.

I will hit up my pile of stuff and shoot you a PM on what I have.

I have a AOpen AK77 400 Max thats just sitting around my house. I will test it next time I get home from college. I dont know exactly when I am going home but it should be one of these weekends coming up soon.

i got a brand new 80mm logisys CCL fan, its a blue CCL.
and some extra sleeviing (uv- red, neon green) some molex ends (uv-blue, neon green) a fan mate2 and and extra ocz modstream molex 2 way (uv blue). my extra UV CCL broke yesterday. this is all the stuff i can spare at the moment. oh and some 1/4" split seam black wire loom....about 12ft.

we could get like a blue/green theme started with this stuff.

I have a UV green PSU sleeving kit laying around, but they are cheap. So we can do any color really.

Like I said, its for a 13 year old so he will probably like flashy. I was thinking maybe some LED feet. I am still not sure if we should paint the case or not. Ideas?

I have a 40GB IDE drive from i think maxtor that came out of a Dell my uncle had. Id be willing to part with it for a worthy cause such as this

Well, if nobody else donates a vid card, seein' as i just got 2x 6600GT's for my new rig, if nobody offers in time for the build, hit me up and i'll donate my Nvidia GeForce 5700ve. That should get his game on. I'd rather not part with it but its a good cause and i can buy another.

I'd suggest something without internet required, seeing as the devastation down there has probably taken out any high-speed internet.
