Default Kaypro2 - Resurrection 2005

Another project is here. Here's my Kaypro2 which I will be leaving pretty much the same on the outside, but I be changing all the insides with modern parts. I opened up my Kaypro2 and here's some of the inside pics.

Lightbulb

Damn that's gonna be cool!

Are you gonna set it up for overclocking?? I don't really know how much space you have in there for fancy cooling gadgets and what not,

I seriously can't wait to see what's gonna happen with it - Looking forward to the worklog

I took apart the kaypro and didn't get a single shock. Here's the motherboard.

And the bottom of the motherboard where it's protected by this sheet.

When I took the motherboard off this is as it was underneath.

Here's looking down at the connections for the monitor.

And the Power Supply. I have no idea of the wattage.

And here it is empty.

Hey, Satan
What are ya gonna use for a screen, cuz i was lookin at the pic of the space where the screen goes and if it would work i got an Apple duo 810 laptop that i saved for parts and barring the conn. issues it look like it would fit in that hole.

I'll be using a 6 inch LCD

Today I worked on preparing the case for the motherboard. I got a pretty generic board with my 2.8Ghz P4 and 512MB Kingston DDR333.

Here's the heatsink I bought. It's the Vapochill Micro.

The thermal paste came already on the heatsink.

Here it is mounted. I bought it from Frozen CPU and it didn't come with the shroud that holds the fan in place.

The CD drive bays will be in the way, so I'm cutting out a portion of the bottom to make room. There will still be a single slot loading CD drive on top.

Here's the back off the case with the IO ports

I laid down a piece of sheet metal to make a flat surface and then put the motherboard spacers in.

And another shot of the back with my PSU being lined up.

This project's movin pretty d*mn fast... I give you an A+ for speed. Anyway, i like the green cpu fan. Makes the thing look a little more pimp and a little less gimp.

Damn if this isn't really one of the coolest mods I've seen done in a long time. Now if only you had an old floppy lying around that you could pull out've one of the old bays to remind you of how good things are now...

Thumbs up

I really love this project! My dad owned one of those ancient, luggable rigs.... I really have to
show this thread to him... I'll bet he'll be smiling all day! Looking forward to the installment of a
mini-lcd screen!

As far as the 'old skool' factor goes, that beats, buries, and urinates on the grave of my Compaq Presario 4505 rig which I will regret chucking until my dying day. XP

I've finally done a little more with my Kaypro2. I got the motherboard set in.

Next up, I put in my slot loading CD drive.

And stealthed it with that 80's charm.

The next thing I have to do is figure a good way to mount the PSU. I may not have enough space for my current one, so I'll have to maybe get something smaller. We'll see...

I plugged in the PSU to the motherboard and pressed the button and nothing happened. I don't know if the mobo is dead or not. I tried with 2 different PSU's with the same result.

To be honest I don't even care. Ever since I've finished with R2, I have just gotten bored with modding. I've been pushing my way through my boredom hoping that the Kaypro mod will revitalize my feelings, but it has not. I'm ending it now. This project has been scrapped. I'm sick of troubleshooting problems and I'm tired of crappy component issues. It's better I just stop now before I waste the money on the 6 inch LCD. The parts to include the case, motherboard, processor, memory and keyboard are up for grabs. Anyone who is interested in purchasing them please submit an offer via PM.

Thank you all for your continued interests with my mods. I still have problem areas that I need to work out with R2-D2. The LCD and other pieces need some attention and I will continue to their completion.

Till then I will be taking a break from modding. I still have things I need to do, such as a mod for my mother and for my In-Laws. I will keep you all updated. Thanks again and stay tuned.
