Thumbs up Project: BLuE IcE

Hey everyone,

I've just got into PC building recently. I was in the market looking for a new PC because mine was dead slow and I couldn't stand it, and especially because I was really into computers. Not the software or hardware side, I just I seemed to be on the internet 24/7. I would have been playing games but my cmoputer was too old to play anything decent. So I kept going into shops like Harvey Norman and the like and found that a PC with the specs I wanted would have cost around the $2500 mark. (and thats with the crap **** they put in it). So I kept looking and found a few sites shyowing you how to build computers. At first I just thought theres no chance in hell I could build my own PC but I read them anyway because it seemed interesting. Then I thought to myself what if I get it custom made by a computer shop, maybe then it woul be cheaper and yes it was. So what did I do, I got them to build me an awesome PC and thats the end of my story. Na just kiddin, It was cheaper, but not cheap enough for me. So while talking to my dad he said he had a mate that gets this guy to build him computers real cheap. So I found out this guys number and gave him a call. He was happy to build it for me for $100. Then we met up to have a talk about this PC he was going to build me and mind you I had no idea about components. He was talkin about all this stuff and I was just noddin my head and agreeing not knowing what he was going on about. So after that I went home and did mega research for the next week or so. With a mild idea of what parts I wanted we talked again and he asked me if I wanted to help him build it. And I'll tell you now I was so stoked I couldn't tear the smile off my face if I tried.

So things went as planned and I built the PC with him. But as I had been doing all that research I came across a few mod sites and thats what really got me going. I was so interested but lacking experience I decided to go for some easier mods. All I did was Stealth the drives with remote switches, Install RAM Heatsinks, sleeve all cables, and install an assortment of CCFLs.

My PC is running fine and looks great but thats not enough for me. So lately I have been planning and designing my own custom PC. It won't be in regular case, I'm going to fabricate it out of Aluminium and Plexi. My initial designs were pretty weird looking as you can see.

But I kept staying up late and redesigning it including new things I came up with and saw on other peoples mods. I am still in that process because aklways think of new thigns I want to incorporate into the design. My first ideas were to have a double layer design with highly efficient air cooling. There would be heaps of fans and because of my love of switches there would be one for every fan, light or anything else that could have a switch on it. At first I wanted to make the outside out of checkerplate but decided against it because I am not going for that look anymore. Here is a more recent design:

I love the look of Orac3 and I wanted to incorporate the plugs for everything kind of thing into my project.
I've also been looking at having dual PSUs lately. But I want to mount the both in a custom enclosure with fans and that kinda stuff. I want one good 500W to be powering the system ie: Motherboard, DVD-RW Drive, Hard Drive and also small LCD. And one cheaper model around 350W powering all the fans, LEDs and cold cathodes. Heres my design of that:

By the way I'm only 15 but I hope you don't judge my ability by that. Seeing as I'm only 15 and just quit my part time job at Hungry Jacks, I don't have any income. I borrowed all the money fo my previous system off my dad and still have to pay him back. I have payed around 1/3 of it back. So i'm trying to sell my PC now, Buy all of the parts for my new custom one and install them in a cheapo case so that I have something to use. Then once I've finished the Case I will install all the parts in it. I'm also looking around for a job but no luck yet, so I've been askiing ppl if they would like me to build them PCs for cheap. I've had a fair few ppl ask for quotes but nothing more so far. I also just bought a rotary tool similar to the dremel to help my do this new Rig.

With the case I have planned a few things:
- A small LCD display for displaying system temps, sppeds and all that kinda stuff.
- All the control panels will be made from plexi sanded at the back to diffuse the LED light from behind.
- Most of the features to be black, blue or chrome and the overall lighting to be white CCFLs.
- I want to have a grill kinda thing (you can see it in my most current design pic^) that is cut in half and when I press the button for the DVDRW drive they will open sideways then the drive will come out.
- Four 80mm fans blowing across the mobo and will be covered with modders mesh.
- A 92mm fan on each side door up the front that will blow across the HDD and bottom layer
- An 80mm fan on the back extracting all the air that the 2 x 80mm PSU fans dont.
- The sides and top will open with long handles that I found at a hardware store.
- I may be including a system speaker up the front of the case covered with modders mesh.
- There will be two air intake slots at the bottom front of case with modders mesh.
- The Dual PSU will have a side window with an applique on it. and there will be two project boxes next to it connected with split loom (sprayed Gloss Black) that will serve as junction boxes for all the fans to connect to and all the lights to connect to. The fans on the front of the PSU will have those 3D spiral guards on them. I will make the connections modular so that If I want to add more devices I can but I won't have the cords hanging out. The mobo connections will route straight up though the second floor to the mobo and will not be seen coming out of the PSU since it will be the height of the bottom floor.
- There will be plexi bottoms for the black junction boxes that will be lit with LEDs.

I asked one of my mates for an old case so that I can use the backplate from it for ym project and he gave 2 to me but neither are the ones I want. Their backplates are part of the whole back and are not riveted on. Does anyone have a spare case they can give me that has a riveted on backplate? I will pay shipping and so on.

Anyway that marks the end of first post, as I continue designing and start my case I will keep you updated!

Default Custom Appliques

I want to get some custom appliques done here for the case but I can't design anything I like. I just want it to say "BLuE iCe" , I was hoping someone would be able to come up with something for me. It has to be in "Windows BMP file format or Corel Draw Vector Art" as stated on the website.

Thanks in advance!

Hey settle down, not all is lost
I just thought of a name to use for all the forums and its my new user name here "[D]ark[A]cid" I am still probably going to go through with this project just not straight away. I am working on a partnership with another guy, to have modding services available on his site. So I'm modding him a case first with some kitbashing. I don't know if I'm not looking hard enough or what but I can find any one else apart from Paul Capello wiht the famous Doom 3 mod to use kitbashing on PCs. Anyone gots ome links?

Anyway, I'm trying to get sponsored by companies atm since I don't have the funding and this project will be hopefully rekindled soon in a new thread, with a new name!!
