| Ok so I was watching the discovery channel and they had an episode on the lunar lander and I got this idea. I am going to attach a Matx mobo to some sort of chassis with wheels or treads and use the os to control movement. What I plan on doing is using 2 or 3 cd rom drives to control forward and reverse. How I would do this is by making a few switches, one for forward, one for reverse, ect. and then ejecting the cdrom (using wizmo) to flip the switch. The switch would turn on the motor and then closing the drive would turn it off. I would control the whole unit using XP's remote assistance/desktop or whatever it is called. With this I could hit the shortcuts on the desktop and bam, its that easy. Another nice feature I will add is my webcam, with this I can use msn to see where the rover is in real time, the fps will suck majorly but hell, the rover on mars is stop frame, something like a frame every 2 minutes. Well let me know what you think about this project and if you have any better ideas please let me know. | ||

| SOOOOO if and only if Rover falls through I will resort to plan B. Plan B: Put tiny computer into mt stereo, run linux and play all of my mp3's with a command line mp3 player remotely. Yes yes this has been done before blah blah blah but what I think is different about mine is that the stereo can actually fit a Matx mobo, hard drive, and Psu including what it came with.... It can be a computer and a working stereo at the same time. The only thing I removed from this was the cd player and that is because it was broken when I got it. I can just install a cd drive with the aiwa face on it. The whole reason for this mod is to be hidden. I want it to just sit there and look stock. Well let me know what you think about plan B. Thrasher, how much do I owe you for the drives and the psu? ![]() | ||

| Look up www.nasa.gov they have all sorts of information on the rovers and hi-res Mars rover CGI pics. Somewhere mydad probably has a DVD on the Mars missions. Everytime they shoot something up he gets a DVD replay of the launch and th emission and some of the cam shots are bad sh*t. he has a couple with the cam on the rocket looking down. | ||

| I made that phone. It was originally that nasty tan color, I painted it and replaced the innards. What I really need is input on how I should build this thing. I can do it using the cd drives as switches but does anyone have a less crude way of controlling this thing? | ||

GAH!!! You took the easy way out!!!! J/K I don't blame you. Although with some motors and relays, you could have used the parallel port or something . . . . anyway, nice camo for a music server. Have alot more function than stock. My music server used to be in a budweiser box, till the HD took a dump on me and most of the original CD's were scratched beyond use(AHHHH 38 hours of punk is GONE). Keep posting up progress! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I will get some pictures up today. Hopefully I can moun the hard drive today also. I think Im going to run windows 2000 so I can use my wireless usb adapter to transfer songs to it. The mobo doesnt have a nic so this would be my only way to do it. Lets see what happens when I turn it on as it isnt really grounded.... | ||
