Apex Techie Wannabe
Default first project.

Today my barebones system arrived from tigerdirect.com
Chaintech 7NJL6 Socket A Barebone Kit / AMD Sempron 2800+ CPU / 256MB DDR / CPU Fan / ATX Mid-Tower Case with 400 Watt PS / Keyboard / Mouse (C460-1022 H)

The case is a soyo . I plan on cutting out a side window and painting the inside of the case safety blue. Installing some uv light and some other little tweaks. I have a cool tap plastics down the street. So I should be able to just about get the window cut to fit. I will have to do some of the small detail type cuts. I want to leave the blow hole in the sheet metal. SO I will have to shape the window around it. I got some rust oleom primer and same brand safety blue spray paint. I am going to take it all apart tonight and work on the paint tommorrow. Then later tommorrow night I will take the side panel over to a friends and cut out the window. I also got some sheet metal jig saw blades too. I will probably also try and do some detail pin strip work on the inside too. Not sure yet. I am very excited about this first job. I took before pics and when I am done I will load the before and after pics up here.
Peace;
LSB

Today I cut the side window. First time to cut sheet metal with a Skill saw. I had tap cut the acrylic, I had to touch up the cut to get it to fit just right. Then I took the chassis out and primed it and painted it saftey blue. Here are some pics I snapped with my phone. they may not be all that great and no before shots yet. Those in another camera and i have to wait to develop them. Anywho, this is lots of fun to do. Now for the hard part , installing alll the parts and the OS. WIll send more when done..

You need to upload some bigger pics. When I clicked on the thumbnails, they turned out to be....no larger than thumbnails! Try for at least 640 x 480.

What I wanted to show off in those pics is the cpu duct on the side panel. I left it intact and worked around it. I think it turned out nice , The cableing is my next big task to tackle. I am going to look into sleeving at SVC teusday. I haven't made my mind up on color yet. I am going for a psy trancey look. I will put UV bulbs in it and that will be more clear. I am looking for some type of molecule type transparancy that is black light(UV) responsive. I am thinking Yellow would look cool against the blue back ground???

Ok it is up and running, but I think I fudged it up a bit. It is very load and it is hard to get it to load the OS. It just starts over again and again. I can go in and tell it to boot off the hard drive and that fixes it. untill it has been off for awhile. I put one of those UV acrylic power suppy mods on it. I had trouble getting it to mount and I think I may have bent the metal some. I just thought that was what was making it so load. I am not sure if it is affecting it's ability to boot. I have been sick so no new pics yet. A real nooby question I have is about the MOBO. Mounting it didn't seem right. I putt the plastic stays on the outside edges of the board. Then it had these screw/nuts that I screwed into the case and then I screwed the plastic screw sanp things into the top of them. There weren't enough of the plastic screw / snap things. So I just filled the rest of the holes with the screw / nut things. they are just sorta under the board without being connected to the board. The board is very loose fitting. and also the back plate didn't work with the MOBO Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks;
LSB

"Load"?? You're not making sense. Do you mean "loud", instead of "load"? If you mean it is making a lot of noise (loud), what part of the computer is making the noise? If you don't mean "loud", then what do you mean?

You skip some important info. You say it boots fine from the hard drive. When DOESN'T it boot fine? This is crucial to understanding what may be causing the problem. I don't think you have an electrical ground problem with the motherboard, because if you did, it probably wouldn't power up at all. Try to be more detailed about what the problem is, what seemed to make it work, and of course, use proper English.

He did not double post, as a significant amount of time has lapsed, and editing doesn't bring the thread to the top, as a new post would. No one has problems with bumps, and this was much better than just a bump.

EDIT: oops, too late ^^

I have been in the hospital for the past eight days. That is why there has been no updates. I am not sure that my health will be up to par to do any more work for some time now.
as for the post about my simple spelling error " GET A LIFE!" I think that is self explanatory ( did I spell that right??) I am sure he'll let me know. anyways.
I think I may have blown the MOBO messing with settings in the bios and I figure I screwed the PSU up too. I am watching Tiger for a deal on a MOBO and PSU . So that maybe some day I will finish the project. For the next six months though it is in and out of the hospital for me.
Off to live for one more day;
LSB
ps and hopefully another and another and another.......
